Dr Willoughby/Dad/Pilgrims Rest?

Does anyone remember any of these shows?

Dr Willoughby (1999) with Joanna Lumley - thought it was ok but pretty lame for Joanna Lumley to be in it after Ab Fab.

Dad (1997 - 1999 - ish) with George Cole - though it was ok from what I remember, and by Andrew Marshall who wrote 2point4 Children.

Pilgrims Rest (1997 ish) not sure when it was on but it had Gwen Taylor and Gary Olsen running a café or something (could be way out on that).

Also does anyone know the name of a sitcom that had about 2 series a few years apart and the opening credits were of a bloke climbing a ladder? Might have been ......Progress or something Ladder.....was mid - late 90s, sure the bloke was called Peter.

I remember Dad, and quite enjoyed it. George Cole's a great comedy actor.

I always get it confused with Keeping Mum from the same time.

I've remembered the other one I thought was about a Peter - it was The Peter Principle. Yay - can't remember if it was good though.

Let us not forget the great performance he put in in Eric Chappell's The Bounder.

The Peter Principle starring Jim Broadbent?

For some reason known as 'The Boss' overseas.

Dad is fab. I've got Pilgrims Rest but never got around to watching it, ditto The Peter Principle. Not familiar with Dr Willoughby though.

And just a note for future, it'd be really appreciated if you create separate threads for each series. :)

Sorry lols I just didn't see point in wasting good space on 3 different forgotten shows that might only get 2 replies haha.

But ok if you insist. :P

I haven't seen Pilgrims Rest since it was shown and would like to a lot, just to see if it was any good.

Is it out?

I'm surprised people don't remember Dr Willoughby though.

It was where Joanna Lumley played a doctor, it was on ITV back in 1999. It was ok but not too great.

Edited by Aaron.

Yes, I do insist. They're unrelated (in terms of characters), so really shouldn't be together. :)

No, it's not, I'm afraid.

Ok fair point - But.....oh was gunna go on rant about how Dad and Pilgrims rest are connected by Andrew Marshall and Gary Olsen but noticed u said "characters" oops :D

they could be linked like this though lmao

Dad was created by Andrew Marshall who wrote 2 Point 4 Children which starred Gary Olsen, who went on to be in Pilgrims Rest. Pilgrims Rest only ran for 6 episodes like Dr Willoughby.

as far characters being connected, maybe they are all the same ones in drag - have you ever seen them in the same room?

Hmmm? Laughing out loud

is it any good though anyway?

As I said, I've not got around to watching it. :)

Some of these shows may be connected in convoluted ways like that, yes, but ultimately the problem is that threads will be linked to comedy guides within the site, and it's not really possible (and very least not easy) to link threads to numerous comedies.

(And the wife in Dad was played by Julia Hills, aka Rona in 2point4 Children.)

P.S. Please make sure you use capital letters, punctuation and all things like that. :)

Will try to. I was always good with punctuation until txting and Facebook came along :D

I overlooked Julia Hills, though I did know that. Being honest I had forgot until I read it again last year on Wikipedia.

Can I set you (or anyone) a challenge to find out who produced Dr Willoughby? :P

Witzend Productions.

Clearly the brains of the operation lols :D

Thanks

Doubt that would ever get a DVD release though. Are there cases of 1 lone series being released (where no more were made)

Yes, there are.

Just found Dr. Willoughby on YouTube. Actually quite like it :)
