British Comedy Guide

Thoughts please

I sent a comedy production company a sketch show I wrote. They replied saying they would like to see more sketches. Should I include some of my more controversial stuff or should I play it safe. I will probably go for the former unless anyone has experience that this is a bad idea. Thanks :)

And when was you planning on telling me *humph?!*

Laughing out loud You were WLM said busy all night but i still see you have time to post *humph?!*

Send 'em everything including old shopping lists.

Might be worth getting someone to read all your sketches and then sending the ones they LOL at? I'm terrible at judging what people will laugh at and what they wont...

But congrats btw! And g'luck!

On the one hand, it might just be an idea to research the kind of stuff they produce. On the other, however, if they've already shown interest in your style then I would assume that it's a pretty safe bet that you're already giving them what they want.

I sent Angel Eye every sketch I had, basically, when they had that call for Onliners. It seemed to work and the stuff they didn't want (practically everything!) didn't seem to affect their opinion of me.

I didn't send the 'Gay Dwarf Paedophilia' sketch though. I was advised it was too much...

AJP.
I would send out everything you have. Some companies like Baby Cow love all the twisted stuff.
I have to say that some of the sketches I have seen of yours are done in such a way that you are cleverly climbing up the borders but not quite jumping over them. So based on that I will say send them in.

You have nothing to lose & everything to gain from it.

Try reverse psychology and send them nothing.

Laughing out loud
Or a brail sketch & tell them you are deaf.

Better still, send them a vid of you doing sign language & say "Do not play till after midnight as deaf peeps are barred untill that time"

Ya what?

AJP.. It may be a good idea to retire now on a high... :)

:) Or the old 'mission impossible' - this sketch will self-destruct in twenty seconds...

What and hang around here all day... wait a minut... doh!

Thanks for the advice everyone :)

What company was it, if you don't mind me asking?

I wouldnt send them everything you have, they wont want to wade through pages and pages of stuff. Send them about 10-15 sketches, and if your not sure what tone to send, send about two thirds safe stuff, one third risky; then youre covering yourself but also showing you have another side to your writing. Good luck with it.
