Don't worry, zooo, it was just a well executed piece of suggestion. People who believed they were not going to be able to move, weren't. Simple as. The film he showed had absolutely no effect whatsoever, it was just part of the show, not carefully crafted in any way. Nor did the obvious subliminal cuts put it at various points in the show. The whole programme was an exercise in persuading the viewer that Derren could do this just by subliminal/non-conscious triggers. The whole trick rests on making people want to believe they can't stand up - to the point where they actually feel they are unable. Whilst they maintain the belief that they can't, they won't. When they were given the "cure" they felt they could. Of course they could have moved all along, if they actually wanted to.
As in his lottery show, he was telling you that he was lying about this all the way through the programme. He told us that subliminal messages/advertising etc. had been disproved and then went on to make up a name for essentially the same process, yet claim that this one worked. He told you that the film did not alter your brain or body in any way.
(The converse of this is practised by "faith healers", who convince someone with very limited mobility that they can get up out of their wheelchair and walk. It only works if they actually have the physical resources to do it. All the faith healer is doing is temporarily increasing their willpower/belief that they can overcome the normal pain and weakness that limits them.)

I do love the whole idea of subliminal messages, I wish he'd used proper ones. Well I suppose he could have as well as the ones they made obvious with the 'bleep' sound accompanying them.

The first time I did it I was only really stuck for a very short time but the I could get my bottom off the chair. The second time, I was stuck until the very first flashy card thing and I was icky afterwards.
I think he said one of the factors that could affect it is if you try to fight it. If you don't let yourself go, it won't work and to be honest I get distracted by light switches so it's very easy for me to get lost in something.
