It sounds like he's set the files as hidden. Presumably he either forgot that they were there, or knew but didn't think you'd be able to find them. I've never heard of Photoshop automatically opening, and showing files, so it's unlikely he knew it possible.
If you throw the key away, he'll probably realise and be mortified. If you delete them, and he knew that they were there, then again, he'll realise and be mortified.
Just close the files in Photoshop whenever they open, and never speak of them again. Return the stick to him when you're done, and say nothing.
