Back to Class - Thank You For The Music Page 12

After claiming that I would say no more on this topic I appear to be lying my arse off. I shall desist and leave the thread.

Still a couple of pages to go!

Two more and I'm a BCG record breaker! Do I get a award?

Do I get a award?

Yes, a kick up the arse and a forced injection of humility.

Is that a private one or will it be a televised ceremony?

Up to you. Although I'm sure you'd want it up on YouTube. :)

Yeah as long as I can self-promote it like mad.

A continuing defence of yours is that your humour is too subtle for us comedy philistines to notice. Is there just a tiny possibly that - if so many people cannot see these subtle gags - they may just be a figment of your imagination, James? There is a difference between admirable self-confidence and delusional arrogance. Pretty much everyone who has taken the time to offer you constructive criticism (such as Marc P) is essentially dismissed as wrong. It may not be obvious to you that this is how you respond to criticism, but I'm afraid it is true.

I would urge you to spend some more time learning the craft of writing and less time in self-promotion at this stage. Best of wishes.

I didn't at any point say that the humour was too subtle for you. For me it was too subtle at times that's it's problem. I didn't say Marc P was wrong I said I can see his point but he was coming at criticising the show from the wrong angle. This is the thing I get annoyed about. That people give out the advice that you should be confident in your own work and it should make you laugh first and foremost and you should get your work out there to be looked at, I do all of the following and get criticised. Why? (Because if it wasn't any good fair enough have a go at the show but not me personally.)

This thread reminds me of that 'Fred' guy on YouTube - the concept sounded like it wasn't going to appeal to me, but the popularity forced me to take a look.

...Yes, I hate 'Fred'.

Re 'back to class' - I respect the enthusiasm you guys have, but this video wasn't for me.

I remember hating everyone on here for ripping apart my first bit of writing. But then I put put that script aside for a few months, came back and re-read with fresh eyes, and realised it was just an adequate toilet paper replacement. And I came crawling back here for more advice (punishment).

Of course, all comedy is subjective, and people often like the programs us 'comedy aficionados' don't (Coming of Age and 2 Pints etc) - but I think it would be a mistake to think we are wrong when we say it 'just isn't that funny'.

But, writing is like any other activity - if you keep doing it you will get better at it. So keep doing it!

Oh my GOD is this still going on!

'Back to Class - Thank you for the Posts'

Problem is, it's so hyped up, if anybody does ever watch it, they are going to be let down.

Bit like Slumdog Millionaire for me.

No the problem is people will read other people's comments then watch it and look for problems and not go into it with a open mind.

I don't think Back to Class is hilarious but I don't think it's devoid of good comedy moments. That's my argument. People seem to think I'm so confident in my own abilities that I think that everything I do is amazing, it isn't but there is always good comedic moments in it because if there wasn't I would do it would I?

But I watched it first before there was any criticism, and I still didn't enjoy it.

I just didn't enjoy it. James, you need to stop trying to prove to us that we are missing something, alot of people have the same opinion. Just move on and try something new, rejection must be shit but people get rejected everyday in industries and they just get up and move forward. Instead of you thinking 'right, I'll show them'- you KEEP up talking about. Stop talking and start doing, your a talented lad- but seems like you need direction.

Now piss off.

:)

Haha. He's right, though. What I do is print out/save every rejection email I get, so when I become successful I can look back at them all and see how far I've got.

...which reminds me, I must get a new ink cartridge.

If you read a few pages back I have moved on as we have already started writing the full 30 minute pilot. I have loads of other projects on as I always do but I just like to respond to the comments left in a way I see fit. If you don't like it that's fine with me and believe it or not I'm actually quite laid back about criticism as not to say big-headed again! But I usually notice these thing myself afterwards. One more excuse though it is a demo pilot so it's just a short piece to try a few ideas out not a prime-time BBC sitcom, I know what you're going to say, why post it on here and why release it? Answer: to canvas opinion and to see the potential for more episodes.

Ok. Good.

Let's drop it then?

James, your talented. I do think that. Just move on and show us what else you've got. This one, didn't work for me. But the next might just very well be a winner.

(God forbid it is, else we might have to give you your own post section, like a General, General James Thread-except on this one...only you post to it...yes)

I will drop the defensive act now ok.

And genuinely thank you all for the comments, believe it or not I do take them onboard.

I think my latest comic creation Jeremy Spicer will be a big it with everyone more then Back to Class.

I love the thread idea, as Patrick Stewart once said: "Make it so."

:D
