Please put me out of my misery

Please put me out of my misery. What was the name of a popular UK comedy, a sitcom, probably BBC or possibly Channel 4, it ran in the late 80's, early 90's...starring a tall, dark-haired woman and a harassed-looking dashing chap (possibly with wavy hair)....it concerned their relationship, and was well-written but fairly conventional; I remember one episode which revolved around the well-used theme of them indulging in bondage and him being left there tied up in bed while her parents visited. Dammit, I keep thinking of the word 'Coupling' , and the show's title might have similar to that.

Dammit dammit dammit, it was popular at the time, it might even have been broadcast at primetime.

If I could remember more details I might be able to find it myself..

Was it 'Watching'?

Egads. I remember that episode. But the show escapes me entirely. It is something I have in my collection though, which narrows it down a little. There is of course a series called Coupling but I don't recall an ep like that, and it was 2000s.

Could it be a relationship flashback-y scene in Joking Apart?

Matthew, it wasn't Watching.

Infuriating, isn't it?

Although it's such a well-used theme, you might actually be remembering a different show. It was definitely not Coupling, although there might have been similarities.

Got it! It was Joking Apart. I tracked it down on a hunch, by checking out Steve Moffat's wiki entry.

It's brilliant.

Sorry, I must have assumed that was a tagline, and just ignored it.

Could have saved yourself a good half-hour searching! *shakes fist*
