Please Sir! TV series Page 2

Not seen much of it to be honest. Really need to sit down and have a proper watch. But the impression I get so far is "not bad". Certainly not as bad as the stigma it seems to have, anyway.

Sorry Jack but to say On the Busses was ITV's best sitcom isn't much of a compliment. I don't agree anyway. Much better were The Doctor in (etc) series, Please Sir, Man About the House, The Lovers, New Statesmen, Agony etc etc etc............

Fans of the show, get on to HMV.com, the complete series as well as the film is £25. RRP £80.

Bugger! Just turned on Channel 4 to get the last five minutes of the film!

To answer the original post from Andy, I don't actually know, sorry. I was told this by someone who thought they knew everything about 70s comedies back in the early 90s if not before, but it escapes my memory now. I remember being slightly surprised by the answer, in that it was a slightly posher district of London than I thought it would be, but I'm not even sure of that now. I tell you what, I'm determined to find that out now, so when (or if) I do I'll come back to you.

According to a poster on anothwer forum I frwequent they claim Please Sir was filmed at:- Stonebridge Primary School, SHAKESPEARE AVENUE BRENT LONDON

I hope that helps.

Great sitcom this but once the original cast left as did John Alderton standards slipped in my opinion.

However another poster has posted this:-

The series was filmed at 3 schools in the London borough of Brent ,

The school used for the opening title sequences was Gibbons road primary school in 1968( this later became Sladebrook 1972-73 with the addition of a large new building )however the interior shots are a mixture of Leopold road school and Oldfield road school, I attended Sladebrook from 1974-1980

season 1 used the front playground of Gibbons road for the title sequence
season 2 used the back playground of Gibbons road for the title sequence
with the final photo the group shot being against the sports hall

And to correct the earlier comment it was not a gas works next to Gibbons road it was a coal fired power station and was demolished in the mid 70's.

Yes, that does ring a bell with me now, I have a faint recollection of being told it was Finchley or thereabouts but that isn't too far from where you've said, is it.

Key to these sorts of locations is their locality to the studios. Many of On The Buses (another LWT Production) earlier filming locations were in close proximity to LWT Studios at that time in Wembley. Now the Oldfields Road location is in Willesden and so prety close to the then home of LWT - Wembley Studios.

I love Please Sir, I have the first two series on DVD. A question for Aaron, what do you think of ITV's best sitcom, On the Buses

Debatable whether On The Buses is ITV's best sitcom.

But any 'best' label or opinion is somewhat debatable! :)

Spot on Aaron. I mean we ALL have our own personal favourites.

On The Buses is non-league compared to Please Sir!, being premiership.

And that is your opinion Chappers and there are those that would disagree with that or would have their own personal favourite.

I think they're both great sitcoms, but On the Buses is the best of the two.
