Sitcom Trials Autumn '09 Page 27

If I may be so bold as to make a suggestion? Ten minutes should mean ten minutes when it comes to the work being performed on stage. You could allow a minute between scene changes, but no more.

If anyone's work, no matter how good it is, strays over the 13 minute mark for the first section, then bam, instant disqualification. Or at the very least, pull the plug and turn the lights off.

Seriously, there were some blatant piss takers at the last one.

Hmmm...

The Piss Takers
Will and Bob like to have a laugh, until a stint of community service requires them to empty chemical toilets at Festival. They suddenly find it not that funny anymore...

Is it studio based?

My Family Home Sweet Butterflies:
Polly and Geoff argue with their teenage daughter about her choice of university – for 11 minutes. Then the lights go out and we hear a gunshot from the audience.
In the 3 minute sequel, RC is dragged away by armed police.

About these cliffhangers do they have a good stage manager set designer at the theare?

Laughing out loud

Closing Time -

Reality show in which Renegade Carpark get's to the bar too late because of some wanker's unfunny sitcom entry going on for half a f**king hour.

I don't know how many lurkers there are here on BSG, but by my count there's only about 15 people here actually entering scripts into the Trials, out of 380 entries. I sometimes wonder if we devote too much attention to this forum :)

Though to be honest, I haven't found a better place to try and communicate with everyone yet. The old SitsVac group is a desert, and Facebook seems to lack interactivity.

If anyone has any great suggestion of a way or a place that we could build up communications between Sitcom Trials entrants, and also actors and punters, I'd be interested in hearing. Meanwhile, I'll continue directing them all here.

Only fifteen people on a comedy writers website entered? that's shocking. Although actually, that might make our chances slightly better (i've got straw and I'm clutching).

I put my details in my email but forgot to attach them to the script? Is that a big deal?

Um, make that 16. I think I might count as a lurker. I've entered a script in any case...

Like Jane P, got through to the final 32 last time, so here's hoping...

How does he know only sixteen writers from this forum entered. I entered but under my real name, I am pretty sure that there are other examples of this. Renegade for example. I am pretty sure his second name isn't carpark.

E.S.W. have you opted for traditional style of comedy? Cus from the videos I have seen from last year, they looked quite conventional

Hi Adam,

Not sure if that question was addressed to me, but I'll answer it anyway! ;)

The Sitcom Trials that happened this year, in Feb, weren't taped, so YouTube stuff is from earlier years. Can't speak for them.

I saw about 12 comedies this year, and they were a real mix of styles, but on the whole verging towards traditional. Of course, it's a different producer this time around, so quite different stuff might get through, I don't know.

The script I've entered this time is fairly conventional, I suppose. Not particularly pushing the boundaries of the genre, just trying to write some funny characters and give them funny lines. Frankly, that's challenging enough... :)

I'm pretty sure my first name isn't Renegade either. :)

I would imagine that Kev F is just going by the number of people who have expressed publicly on this forum that they have entered. But to be fair, the first time I heard about the Sitcom Trials was through the BBC website and then I subsequently stumbled on here in hopes of finding out more information.

So it could easily be that the majority of those entering have no idea this forum exists. Additionally, quite a few people on this forum may have entered but are afraid to say in case their script doesn't reach the finals.

If you've sent a script in and you're worried about X, Y or Z, then you should take some chill pills as it's too late now anyhoo.

Same here, wasn't in the original 16 and was then thrown a lifeline by the increase in finalists.

Based on chats with other writers at various events, there are a lot of lurkers, so you've probably picked up more than 15. Plus, more important is how many of the scripts you end up using are from people on here (100% I'm sure...)

To test Kevs theory on how any from this forum entered, we could start a count. Ive entered so I'm No 1 (At last!)
