It's not so bad if you get into halls itself because in halls you have freedom yet you are still slightly more protected and cared for. But a lot of students do not get a place in halls and are offered off campus accomodation and THAT is when it can get pretty awful.
If you are not in halls, it can be bad. For example, at my uni when I went, if you didn't get into halls, you had three options, you could stay at home and commute if you lived near enough, you could go into "university approved" private accomodation, or you could stay with a host family with a spare room. Not many people picked number one 'cause everyone wanted to move out but most people I know in the first year who took options two and three ether dropped out, moved back home, or went on a emergency waiting list for halls because where they were was so awful. This was due to the fact we had an awful accomodation officer who really wasn't good at her job (In my last year she was fired). The place I ended up in, there was mould in the kitchen, bathroom, and one of the bedrooms, my room could only fit a bed and a cupboard and yet I was charged the same rate as the girls in the large rooms, no freezer whatsoever, broken heaters, and a electric meter that was suddenly altered after we went away for Christmas. The worse part was I was sharing with a girl who turned out to a be a stealing psychopathic drunk and I had no lock on my door so much I my stuff went missing. My best frined was with a host family who clearly had been in for the money and forget they would have to have her in the house and told her she had to be out of the house from 9am to 6pm and after 9pm they would lock the door. Her stuff went missing too.
Had we been in halls, We would have had a lock on our doors, working heating, a freezer, a welfare officer we could call out anytime, and we would have had a better community feel so I wish I had commuted at least while putting myself on a waiting list.

Jesus I didn't thinkin it was that bad out of halls, a lot of my mates have done ok with being outside of halls.
But I guess it can be pretty bad if you're new to moving out ect.
That's just one experience. Some people get on totally fine! All I'm saying is that is one downside you could face.
Of course, living with your folks can really suck!
Roo is so dumb, she briefly forgot she was blonde and jumped when she looked in the mirror >_<.....
Andi has just made her stupid DVD player region free!!!!
So, now that I can buy any region, what's everyone's favourite sites for buying DVDs? I know that everyone has opinions on this...
Whichever's the cheapest.
What is the meaning of this word...buy?

Quote: Dolly Dagger @ September 5 2009, 12:46 PM BSTCan you get pet insurance for gerbils, or have you had to pay that out yourself?
Gerbils, not as far as I'm aware. But my other pets are all insured. Glad your BD went A1
Ohh you can for Gerbils. Petplan do it!
Also, I think PDSA do it too.
Insuring gerbils? Those bloody little sand rats seem to take great pleasure in dying for no apparent reason any time they feel like it.
