Terry & June Page 2

Terry and June was a great show. One of those kinds of sitcoms that all the family could enjoy.

The strange thing was they played Terry and June in Happy Ever After which was canned after a successful run and then they made Terry and June which was the same sit-com with different surnames.

Happy Ever After came to an end when the writers decided that the format didn't have any further mileage. The BBC disagreed, and resurrected with what I assume were changes to avoid a lawsuit.

As for Happy Ever After, I've watched it recently and have to say it's not a patch on Terry And June. The latter is so much more developed, better characters (there are some changes), and a lot better without Aunt Lucy.

It has one of those theme tunes/sequences I'll probably remember until the day I die. One of those shows I watched with my parents in the 1970s and haven't seen since.

I may be getting my time frames mixed up a bit but I never rated it as much as Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em, The Good Life or my favourite of the 70s M*A*S*H. All of which were family viewing in our house. Oh and Taxi of course. I'll stop now - I keep remembering more. :)

Then when I got very excited about new comedy in the 80s this kind of show seemed really lame, but it has a certain charm about it no doubt.

It was definitely a show that all the family could watch but I never liked it when I was younger, so I wouldn't watch any repeats nowadays.

I seem to remember it becoming a bit of national joke back in the 1980s. I think they repeated it on UK Gold or UK Drama a few years ago at 5 in the morning and I watch some for some reason. Bit hokey. But it was hard to dislike Terry Scott and June Whitfield. Plus it had one of the most catchy theme tunes ever as Jane P says.

I used to love it growing up; haven't seen an episode since, mind you.

We always used to watch ITV instead of BBC, so I don't really remember it, though I've seen a few episodes. It does seem to be the sort of thing that alternative comedy was born to sweep away. But who can fail to like the performers themselves? June always has that same feeling in anything she's in that she's really taking the piss out of it.

Just discovered a Happy Ever After episode, Terry In Court, was remade as a Terry and June episode.

One of the scariest and sinister shows I ever saw.

When I was seven, I think I just thought it was funny.

I agree with that, and I think that 1970s programmes like Rising Damp & Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em stood the test of time a lot better because they were far superior shows.

Having said that, in my opinion June Whitfield is among the best comedy actors Britain has ever produced, and she certainly stood the test of time.

Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em

I love that show.

I would say T and J is slightly better than Rising Damp and a lot better than Some Mothers.. Just my opinion though

Actually I agree there.

Honestly, Chappers, you shouldn't be allowed to watch comedy! Unimpressed
