Dead Man's Shoes. Richard returns home from military service to a small town in the Midlands. He has one thing on his mind: revenge.

Also good because it teaches you that if, you really put your mind to it, you can get somebody into a suitcase.

Henry, Portrait of a Serial Killer - a low budget film based on the activies of serial killer Henry Lee Lucas. No laughs or wimp-outs, this is pedal to the metal, balls to the wall grit. The UK version is uncut now, so you can enjoy everything as the director intended.

This too teaches you how to get somebody into a suitcase.

I was just gonna say that. :D

Has anyone mentioned 8 Heads In A Duffle Bag? ;)

A almost completely forgotten film this, directed by Tony Richardson. Based on a Evelyn Waugh novella, it is a dark satire on an Englishman's experiences of the Hollywood studio system and the American funeral parlour culture. Has a brilliant performance by Rod Steiger as the slightly camp embalmer, Mr Joyboy.

Another good forgotten Hollywood-based film (I believe showing on Film 4 at the moment) is The Last Tycoon. Based on F Scott Fitzgerald's unfinished novel (and with a Harold Pinter screenplay) it stars Robert De Niro as a Hollywood exec.

I like Dead Man's Shoes, it contains the perfect riposte if someone says 'what are you looking at?', and you feel like passing the time with a bit of intense violence.

It's not bad, and by DeNiro's recent lousy standards, it's a masterpiece.

Yes, I saw that on Moviedrome on BBC2 back in the 80s. There are loads of really good films like this that never appear these days.

When art student Ben Willis dumps his girlfriend Suzy, he develops insomnia after finding out how quickly she moved on. To pass the long hours of the night, he starts working the late night shift at the local supermarket. There he meets a colourful cast of characters, all of whom have their own 'art' in dealing with the boredom of an eight-hour-shift. Ben's art is that he imagines himself stopping time. This way, he can appreciate the artistic beauty of the frozen world and the people inside it - especially Sharon, the quiet checkout girl, who perhaps holds the answer to solving the problem of Ben's insomnia. - IMDB.

The Warriors. Which I believe is being remade by Tony Scott. :O

Here are some trailers to some of my faves...

Battle Royale Cry Baby White Oleander Rock N Roll high school Dazed and confused Ghost in the shell

Battle Royale is great. Seen the sequel at all? And talking of Japanese films, Audition is worth watching, but only if you've a strong stomach.

I'm there. :D

Kung Pow: Enter The Fist amused me greatly. If you like martial arts films you should check it out. Kung Pow: Enter the Fist is a movie within a movie, created to spoof the martial arts genre. Writer/director Steve Oedekerk uses contemporary characters and splices them into a 1970s kung-fu film, weaving the new and old together. As the main character, The Chosen One, Oedekerk sets off to avenge the deaths of his parents at the hands of kung-fu legend Master Pain. Along the way, he encounters some strange characters, one of which is a cow trained in the martial arts.

It's no way near as good.

Primer. Hard sci-fi flick about time travel. Made for about 50p a few years back. A bit like Memento, I immediately had to rewatch it to see what I missed.

I didn't care much for the sequel. It started brilliantly enough but started to go a bit downhill. Love the first though.

Most gruelsome part has to be towards the end when they take on the psychopath after he has been blown up and he turns and you see....oops spoiling it!
