Ban On Traditional Light Bulbs - 1st September Page 2

To me, this is just one minor example of how politics is the preserve of men and women with mediocre brains servicing their mammoth yet deluded egos.

Presented with a problem, the politician is more eager to be seen to be acting decisively in implementing a bad solution, rather than being seen to accept the possibility of being wrong in order to implement a good solution.

Not that I wish to metaphorically wee-wee on everyone's indignation / hysteria / new found nostalgia for light bulbs, but is it only the 100 watt varieties that are being banned? It's hard to tell actual fact from hyperbole in modern newspapers, but that is the jist that landed in my eye.

Oh screw it (or bayonet it), THE EU HAS BANNED FAIRY LIGHTS!!!! NO MORE CHRISTMAS!!!

Please resume your normal outrage.

*Outrage continues behind closed doors*

:O

(I have no life. *gist, BTW)

Oh yeah, my mistake, sorry Aaron...Wait, WTF?! :O

When you've finished with the new type of bulb, don't dispose of it in your bin, just smash it in the street. When all that mercury starts turning up in the streets they will soon have to come up with a new policy!

If it came out of Brussels politicians will have had very little to do with it. The EU is run by the bureaucrats: not bad people, but fitted with ideological blinkers.

I've got some of those lamps which you touch to turn on but they don't work with the new energy saving lightbulbs.

But petrol has been going up 1p every week for a while now. What's a 2p jump in the grand scheme of things?

What's the current cost per liter these days? I paid $2.47/gallon yesterday. If my math is correct, that's 40p per liter.

I hate the way energy saving bulbs don't light up the fraction of a second you hit the light switch. I'm too impatient...

Same here. I replaced all of the spotlights in my kitchen with CF versions, but it takes a few minutes for them to achieve full brightness.

I think LEDs will be the lights of the future.

I don't if your maths is good.

But over here its £1.06 per liter

It's about one pound per liter here currently...

The word is Maths - and you obviously haven't done it correct.

:)

Anyway. Lightbulbs. Horrible things, these new ones. Stupid EU etc, yes. That institution is the single most evil thing the world has ever seen.

I double-checked my figures and they are correct. As is my spelling of math and liter. ;)

I think it's 55p, not 40p. Oh no, hangon...

Anyway.

I believe that this ban only affects 'general sale'. So they'll still be available, but not off the shelf in supermarkets. Still able to be fitted for period properties, for example.
