The all-in-one consolidatory football thread Page 24

Having said that I would like to see one live. And a baseball game.

Both are a lot of fun. The nearest NFL city is Houston and it's 200 miles away, so I haven't attended any games since I moved to Texas. I prefer college football, but the closest school with a major team is the Longhorns in Austin and tickets are surely impossible to find. The local university is starting a football program in 2 years, so maybe I'll be able to see a few games.

I love baseball and I miss living 10 miles from the Angels' stadium (and Disneyland) in California. There's a minor league team here in San Antonio that I've been meaning to check out. Tickets range from $6.50 to $9.50 so it's a cheap way to see tomorrow's stars. But baseball games make drinking a challenge. You never know when a foul ball might hit you in the head and kill you, so you have to remain somewhat alert.

I decided to to follow Everton back in the '80s, partly because they were really good then, and partly because the 3 lads who sat at my table in Primary school all supported them. I would've preferred to start following my team through my family, like some of my mates did, but the truth was my Dad just wasn't really interested in the game. I've always found it a bit weird, because he was quite physical in certain other ways, e.g. he was in the army, where he did parachute jumps and assault courses, he never shyed away from confrontation, he drove a motorbike, and, just for good measure, he was a bit of a wiz on our local ice-rink and roller-rink. The only sports he watches are boxing - which I also like - and Formula 1 - which I hate.

I support Man Utd because I am from Manchester and my dad supported them and so took me to games as a young bairn.

Was that the grey shirt game?

Oh yes. What a bunch of tossers. Shows how much regard they have for their supporters.

Here you go Grandad

Oh yes. That was good wasn't it!

Question. Why do you support the team you support? Is it geography? Did you grow up supporting that team? Do you just like that team and decided to support them?
I don't actually support any football teams I just like watching it. My game is rugby and I support the side I grew up watching and actually played a bit of youth rugby there (Crosskeys) and Wales. Plus the Welsh regions when they play a side from another country I guess.

Is this deja vu?

I like American Football but only highlights programmes. I can't sit through a whole game not even the Superbowl as there are too many starts and stops. Having said that I would like to see one live. And a baseball game.

I hate the game. This is off-topic because this thread is about REAL football that the whole world plays. And don't any kids play rouners down your way?

This is a good game. England v Russia in Women's Uefa championships on Eurosport.

We're 3-2 up but not optimistic.

I put it on a few minutes ago, after reading your comment, and, coincidentally, the camera was doing a close-up of an England player with the name "Chapman" on her back.

Speaking of digital channels, do you ever watch any of the Japanese League matches? I like watching them, because the fans are really passionate, creating a great atmosphere.

Don't they all look the same though?

I see England won. Chapman is a really good player. Got more balls than I have.

What a surprise. All the decisions go Manchester United's way.

Still - Chelsea's football was sublime.

You mean the stonewall penalty or the clearly offside Arsenal goal?

The only debateable thing was the fletcher tackle on Arshavin but that was cancelled out because they scored from the same passage of play 30 seconds later.

It is incredible how you always find a way to moan at Utd even when there is nothing to back you up.

It's because he's southern.

And the Brown tackle which deserved a red card!

Penalties always go their way. Yes - it was off-side - but the referees are intimaidated and need to be stronger. Also Ferguson is such a bad loser. Why does he still refuse to talk to the BBC? What a jerk.

That's no argument because they probably have more supporters in London than Manchester.

It wasn't really an argument. You do seem a bit one-eyed when it comes to Man U. I speak as a Fulham fan.

Family came from Enfield, and were Spurs fans on both sides, and I grew up in Cheshunt, where Spurs had their training ground, so my fate was pretty much sealed. Mind you, this season so far...

I don't really watch football, but then saying that my first team I ever supported was Tottenham, which then quickly changed to Hotspurs coz I prefered the name. Years passed and found that though peer pressure I was led to Arsenal which after a few seasons carried me though to support Liverpool as the strip was similar but somehow more stylish. It's been such a journey. :)

(Disclaimer: This story was 100percent real and no part of it was fabricated for the use of comedical effect whatsoever. Also When I used the word support I don't actual mean Support as I've never paid for any match tickets or purchased any merchandise of any sort. Thank you.)

Exactly.

I understand Man Utd are hated by most fans but Chappers seems to go beyond the call of duty for hatred.

It's not like his team Chelsea are beloved is it?
