I like the movie because Jerry Lewis isn't being himself, and when he is himself, he's very irritating.

I like Analyze This and Meet The Parents, but not Analze That and Meet The Fockers so much.

I like the old Lewis/Martin films and some of his old solo ones too.

You don't seem as jolly lately. Back at work?
Nope. Why, do I seem down? Sorry, am not really. Just have been writing a lot recently and coming here less.
A little (down), less silly.
I glad you're not though.
And we've missed you and your avatar sniffing ways.

Did you know that Jerry Lewis invented the original autocue technology?
Aside from The King Of Comedy, perhaps his most lasting comedy legacy is providing the inspiration for Professor Frink in The Simpsons.

I've been sketch writing. Sketch writing always drains my good humour.
*sniffs some avatars and feels rejuvenated*
Sketch writing you say? Why don't you grab a glass (of low-alcohol water) and meet me in the General, General thread. So we don't hijack this thread?
Fair enough.

Lewis and Martin, sure, but some of Jerry Lewis's solo films, such as The Family Jewels, were pretty difficult to sit through without falling asleep.
Have you heard the outtakes of Martin and Lewis promoting The Caddy? Interesting from 1.04: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LOGfX06ecg
As for The King of Comedy, wasn't the point that some untalented people are desperate for fame and adulation (De Niro), yet people who have attained fame (Jerry Lewis) can find it a curse - partly because the public expects them to be what they're not.
Yes. Yes it was.

You may be right, I haven't seen that. I was talking about the more well known ones.
Great film, one of my favourites, and incredible to think the studio had so little faith in it they left it on the shelf for two years. And one of the first real examples of cringe-comedy, later used in things like The Office and Alan Partridge. Be interestting to know if there are any other examples of cringe-comedy that predate TKOC.
Oh, and nice to see The Clash in a film, acting.

He should get cancer!
