For every couple of good movies like Batman & Robin or Judge Dredd, you get plenty more that are turkeys.
I would rate Batman and Robin or Judge Dredd as some of the worst comic to film adaptations. Joel Schumacher is an the devil.
My favourite comic book movies is probably Iron Man. I think it is the best to date and will stand the test of time. The last two Batman films were phenomenally good. I still have love for Tim Burton's original Batman movie despite it's misgivings. I really liked both Hellboy movies but that could be because I'm a Hellboy comic nut (I actually thought the 2nd film was a better movie). I always love pointing to Ghost World to say "look at how rich comic book stories can be!". Minus the Wolverine flick (seriously...why?!) the X-men movies were the first superior comic book movies in my opinion.
I don't know why people harp on V for Vendetta I still think it was a solid movie. Moving away from the Thatcher era cold war feel would have been a disservice to the original book.
I really liked Watchmen but I really don't understand why they had to change the ending so much? They stayed true to the comic SOOOOO closely and then BAM "here you go kids a new ending I think is better than your favourite comic".
Overall I'm really excited about anything Marvel is throwing our way now that they have this storyline set in place across all boards thanks to the genius writings with Iron Man.
Sorry...this went on really long. Comic book movies are just one of my favourite things ever.
I'll leave you with my guiltiest of guilty comic book movies. The first Fantastic Four Movie that was soooooo bad it was never even released. The only copies are illegal copies.
Do yourself a favor and watch this movie, it's one of the funniest things I've ever seen.
Here's a preview, Doctor Doom was the best!
