I was at Man City - Spurs back in the late eighties.
Chris Waddle was fouled and couldn't continue.
Something must have happened because everyone on the bench was incapacitated.
El Tel looked up to the skys as if to say 'this can't be happening surely'
At that point he must have spotted me, as I was the only one wearing the correct away strip. He gave me a wave, at first I wondered who he was looking at, but when the crowd started lifting me towards the touchline I realised that it was me he was pleading with.

I remember seeing a game in the very early 80s which featured Pele and Booby Moore in an exhibition match against Germany.
Even though it was only a draw, it turned out great as Harry Palmer and Rocky managed to escape from the Nazis.

Well you learn something new everyday. I could have sworn Matt Le Tissier was a striker, but apparently he was a midfielder.
Question. Why do you support the team you support? Is it geography? Did you grow up supporting that team? Do you just like that team and decided to support them?
I don't actually support any football teams I just like watching it. My game is rugby and I support the side I grew up watching and actually played a bit of youth rugby there (Crosskeys) and Wales. Plus the Welsh regions when they play a side from another country I guess.

I can only speak about American football, but I suppose the concept is the same.
I prefer college football over professional NFL football. I support the University of Florida Gators because it's the university I attended. (It doesn't hurt that they're the defending national champions and a perennially good team.)
I'll root for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (NFL) if I see the game on television, mainly because they were the closest geographically to my hometown. My father had season tickets for their first two seasons in 1976 and 1977 when they lost their first 26 games and were the laughingstock of the nation. They've had a few good years recently.

I like American Football but only highlights programmes. I can't sit through a whole game not even the Superbowl as there are too many starts and stops. Having said that I would like to see one live. And a baseball game.
