I had (well, still have if I lived at home home) three cats. Then we introduced a dog (Ritz; from Cheshire Dogs home) and that didn't go down well. We ended up with a really pissed off dog and a cat with a broken jaw. That hurt in all fashions possible (including the pocket).
Then we took the dog back after just a month. It made me sad. He was the one bloody animal that actually liked me instead of biting me.
Bravo. Always get rid of the dog.
The cats cost less to feed.
