Krod Mandoon And The Flaming Sword Of Fire Page 11

That Sam Raimi fantasy drama should fill the gap, though.

Cool, I liked it.

I enjoyed Krod (a bit), despite the fact it wasn't actually very funny. I must say though, there's just as much humour in 'Merlin', and that's not even supposed to be a comedy.

That article almost sounds like they'd be going for a 'relaunch' of the series, somewhere between Not Going Out and Blackadder. If they did go down that route, it could be a rather more promising outlook. Interesting.

I'm of the opinion that comparisons to Blackadder are a little bit of an overshoot. Just because you're budget has been cut doesn't mean its going to be any funnier. The show needs different writters, and it doesn't help that the main actors aren't comedians.

So different writers different actors. What about a different title and setting? Maybe set it in a New York hotel.

Have you ever seen Steptoe & Son?

I don't think anyone's compared it to Blackadder in its content (beyond the historical setting), but in its production history.

Nope never saw it. Worth watching?

Yea but I was just saying that Blackadder was able to retool its show and make a come back because it had the comedic talent behind it. I don't know if this show does beyond Matt Lucas.
I think this show is begs another question. Why is it that when a network from the UK and a network from the US get together the show is never a hit? I can't think of one. I can think of successful UK/Canada or Canada/US in devours that were successful but not UK/US. I wonder why that is?

Not totally fair to compare; Steptoe was closer to drama and played (fairly) straight. Krod Mandoon was all about gags and hamming it up.

Extras was a co-production with HBO, I think?

Yes, fair point.

*faints*.

I didn't see a lot wrong with the series except the last episode which was total Krud (see what I did there :) ) The bad guys hammed it up and were easily the best feature of the series. The female interest though as sexy as hell couldn't act for toffee and I'm not sure the other three 'heroes' including Krod himself were any great shakes. Having said that I enjoyed the series. It wasn't ground breaking but I think it hit it's target as a bawdy romp. Somewhere between a 'Carry On' and 'Shrek' but better than a 'Carry On' and worse than 'Shrek'!

I have to say that if they were to "pull a Blackadder" as it where, I would be mightly impressed.

For the easily confused, by "pull a Blackadder", I mean to relaunch a brilliant yet cheaper second series compared to a more expensive but poor first series. I don't mean trying to get off with Rowan Atkinson.

Yea you're right there, HBO is the one network that can make just about anything work.
