There is no point in padding anything out. Use just as many words as you need, no more, no less.

That's my philosophy. And it left me with a 4700-word, 52-page script (BBC ScriptSmart sitcom template).

I don't like that template. It starts every scene on a new page - probably why the 52 pages.

Designed by Bill Will's old mucker Matt Carless. Doesn't do the forests much good it is true.
Are there any gaps for thirty minute plays on BBC radio? I prefer thirty minutes to forty five or an hour.

F**k.
So. I did the rewrite and now a couple of months later.
It's a no go. But on the positive side I have been asked to write something new.
They said they were concerned about longetivity and the cost.
I've posted the scripit in critque - any feedback would be welcome.
Oh, I didn't realise my "word count" comment had sparked such a debate in August.
I never came back to this thread. Sorry.
I must say that I wrote a half hour drama the other week and it was indeed 5500 words thereabouts. OK, Marc P was right.
But my aforementioned childrens' half hour drama was approx 4600 words as it had mostly dialogue and sparse stage directions.
Although I must add that it was approx 26 mins and not 30 mins.
Anyway, back to the thread....
Sorry to hear that it was a no go, bigfella.
