Spurs fan I take it Darren. I like that quartet of Keane, Defoe, Crouch and Pavlyuchenko. Much better start for you than last year.

Indeed their interpretation of Mozarts Quartet in G Major was absolutely devine.

Oh, there's lots of mugs in here, but too many silly logos. My search continues...

Serious question;

Hope Powell has assembled a pretty reasonable England ladies team.

At what level could her side compete with male teams? Championship? League 2? Conference?

Tricky. As you go down the leagues the skill level obviously drops, but I'd imagine it becomes more physical.

I'll plump for League 2.

(Did you miss League 1 intentionally?) ;)

I reckon that the top female footballers could easily play in the Championship and the only thing preventing them jumping into the Premiership is the fact that most of them will not have had the same intensity or level of coaching. It baffles me that football remains segregated as such, clearly physical strength or speed is not the be all and end all of players. I think women should be allowed to compete in professional leagues.

What especially aggravates me is the poor treatment that female footballers get in comparison to their male counterparts. Charlton dismantled their ladies team in a series of cutbacks when their crappy male team got relegated and this is beyond unfair. Also when England Ladies were playing in the most recent World Cup they were given a paltry wage in comparison to their by the male counterparts. The FA is not so constrained by a budget that in can justify such payments as 'necessary.'

Quite frankly more needs to be done for women's football in this country.

Yep. And Premiership, Blue Square Premier etc., etc.

Can I help you dismount your high horse?

:$ Sorry.

It's something that really winds me up. Most of what the F.A. does winds me up actually, don't get me started on Youth Football. :P

Perhaps the FA should funnel more resources to grass-roots, ladies etc. I'm not familiar with the heirarchy of the FA or their connection [if any] with the PFA.

I agree that more could, and should be done. Charlton Ladies is a prime example of how things collapse when not given enough support.

*dismounts soapbox*

I really enjoyed the last major tournament England ladies played in. There's some real talent there (Look I didn't mean that but it is true to a certain extent).

I honestly believe that talented female players could play in the Premiership.

Look at how successful Ronaldo was.

I thang yew.

:D

The main thing holding women back is their size - especially in today's game, when scouts are specifically being told to go out and find big players. When I was at school, the best player in my year was a really short lad (think Georgi Kinkladze). We all thought he was a certainty to at least become a non-league player, but he never made it, because he kept getting told he was too small.

I think you're talking Conference North/Conference South level for even the very best female footballers. As for the keepers, 95% wouldn't even make District League level - they are shocking.
