I try my darnedest to be polite to people, but get nothing but bad service and rude reactions in return. I can feel myself slowly becoming bitter towards society (more so!) because of this.

A polite smile, no matter how fake it is doesn't hurt. Instead of having a carry bag thrown at you and being told to move out of the way before you can finish packing.

Really spoils my day. :( Angry!

I don't think I've ever spoken to the guys who pick up my trash. They do their jobs and everyone's happy.

My bill from Waste Management just arrived: $82.42 for 4 months' service. They come once a week, so it comes to $5 for each pickup. Easy money, but I wouldn't want the job in this heat.

Nope Council tax is just a voluntary donation.

I know what you mean! The staff at sainburys for example always lobs my stuff down. It takes a lot for me not to tell them smiling won't break their faces.

However the worse people for serving you are people who work in clothing shops, especially TOPSHOP! If I ever do buy anything from them, which is rare, I do it online because I can't face those rude little jumped up gimps.

Yeah. But to be fair - if it went private we'd probably get better service. I hate the way they leave a bag open on the street! Grrrr

I do love living in Wandsworth for that reason - cheap council tax.

Where I come from, that's called bum rape.

To be fair retail is a hellish job. Putting up with them big faced brainless chimps everyday (shoppers) is infuriating, whining that they can't find stuff when they are right next to it.

The staff at U.S. supermarkets are always polite and smiling. Some places will even give you free groceries if the cashiers don't say thank you, etc.

One thing that Americans always find unusual about European cashiers is that they're always sitting down. I've never seen a seated cashier in the United States.

I am aware! I too have been on the otherside of the till dealing with rude dumb customers which is why I DON'T understand the need for the people in those shops to belittle everyone who comes in. It's tough dealing with bumholes all day but not everyone asking you if you have something in a size 12 is going to be one. It's your job, get over it.
