The art of...

Comedy is an art to satisfy our sense of humour. Other things stimulate our other senses, music, paintings, etc. Which senses remain without an associated art to stimulate them?
For instance, our sense of balance is a candidate. Sometimes people run around a broom in circles to defeat it, but that's about it.

Tis my downfall. Literally...and metaphorically.

There's not really an art devoted to our sense of time perception. Although Coppola was obviously trying to f**k around with it by doing Apocalypse Now Redux.

I sense that I am confused by this thread.

I would say balance is a motor skill rather than a sensory thing.

All 'senses' have stimuli. Comedy is a stimulus which can bring satisfaction via it's visual and aural elements.

All we need to do now is master the art of funny touch, funny taste and funny smell.

funny smell.

I don't know about that, my cat bought something in this morning that had a pretty funny smell...

Well, we do have a sense of balance. We use our motor skill to maintain the balance, once we have sensed that we are falling over.

I think comedy does not reside in the stimuli, but in our brains, as a 'sense' of the absurd, or other things. It's not the noises of the words which makes a joke funny, it's the meaning we derive from those noises. In music, the noises themselves play a more important role, although ultimately we still 'decode' the noises into meaningful content.

A admit I am using the word 'sense' loosely.

Me too!

Think Ken Dodd's tickling stick has that one covered.

What is all this about?

I think it's an in-joke. Best ignore it.
