Quote: Renegade Carpark @ August 20 2009, 11:37 AM BSTWe have a winner! Scats is indeed correct, it's more compelling telly when there's an emotional reaction.
Quote: Renegade Carpark @ August 20 2009, 11:37 AM BST'How come when England are in the World Cup and either win or lose a game, they show a pub full of blokes? Isn't that sexist?' Again, the telly people know that men are more likely to have a strong emotional reaction to such news.
More men than women watch football. Are more girls than boys taking A-Levels? Also, women are shown in football-related footage, whereas boys go unseen in exam results clips.
I saw loads of boys on TV about results! The other thing I found today is that girls go in early for results then hang around, where as boys turn up and go having done just exactly what they needed to. This was true of my school anyway.
If we assume that news reports do indeed show more girls' reactions to passing their A levels, so what?
Yes, it's true, there's a boy on the footage on the clip on the BBC site now.
This is all alien to me, when I did my exams the school posted us our results. It was probably closed on the day!

It's sexist.

So?
Sexisms bad. Reducing women to meat, fit only for men to ogle. It's wrong and I'm against it.
It's more likely to be pc than sexism, where the liberal left like the BBC are keen to get women in front of the cameras. In the newspapers it's just using sex to sell a story.

Yes, but tragically trapped in a man's body.

Hmm, do I really want to watch a load of 17 year old lads looking at their exam results on the telly?
Do I want to watch anybody looking at their exam results on the telly?
Isn't telly shit?
Quote: Leevil @ August 20 2009, 10:53 AM BSTThat's chip!
Personally I hate that squeeley girl footage they show as excitable youngsters collect their results. When did everyone start getting hysterical? Like on Big Brother and TV talent shows. And the thing I really hate is when someone is crying when being filmed (I've never seen it in real life) and they wave their hand infront of their eyes - what's that all about?
Quote: Dolly Dagger @ August 20 2009, 12:45 PM BSTWhen did everyone start getting hysterical?
August 31st, 1997.

Ah, that day.
