Authonomy (calling all budding authors) Page 2

Ok cheers. I see one of the first ones discovered on there has been published.

Well, in their FAQ, they say putting work up on the site isn't publishing it as such and that it's non exclusive.

You're merely showcasing your work in front of readers, agents, publishers, Mrs Jones from down the road... oh, and HarperCollins themselves, touting, as it were, for potential publication.

And it says if you delete your work from the site, its gorrrrrn. (they don't keep a copy)

Yeah I know. :) But they have just published the first one Harper Collins discovered on there. It's called The Reaper. Presumably makes for grim reading.

Heh, probably. :)

Sorry Marc. My previous reply was for zooo.

Just seen this, thanks Mikey. Have just uploaded something myself. Will give yours a read now.

Ah, thanks Mike-o.

You're welcome :)

What's the URL to your book, andyroo?

It's http://www.authonomy.com/ReadBook.aspx?bookid=11321#chapter

Thanks,

Andy

Ahh. Noah's Ark.

Hang on, hasn't that already been done? I'm sure Noah's Ark was in that Bible book. :P

Only jesting. I'll have a read asap.

I've essentially re-written the bible and am hoping no one recognises it. I thought I'd start at Noah's Ark to put people off the scent.

Thank you for your feedback by the way, very kind words.

Andrew

Seems to be a lot of books on there. Everyone's at it!

Get rich or get RSI tryin'

It's a great book andyroo.

There are some gems on there. But there are also some turkeys too.

Looks like the yurks who failed X Factor, Big Brother and Britain's Got... errrrr... um are now jumping on the "I can be a novelist" bandwagon.

The only trouble with that place is the fact there are a lot of desperate wannabees who are spending 24 hours a day scrambling around, trying to swap reads and swap backings, just to rise up the "charts" and get to the top 5 Editor's Desk, where they'll get that guaranteed read from HC.

What they don't realise is, if their book doesn't match their (rather manufactured) ranking, it will NOT get published.
They only get one chance. Once it's been read, it can no longer rise up the charts and sits there in limbo.

The above has disillusioned me somewhat.
The Authonomy ethos is "find books that interest you. If you like them, back them."
Not do what I've already mentioned.

I don't care about rankings. I'm using my page there as a showcase for my work, that's it.

They reckon agents and publishers browse the site. Let them come a-knocking.

Unfortunately the massive amounts of books about writing books do tend to encourage this.

Not to mention books by the likes of Katie Price, who are so incredibly bold about the fact that they didn't actually write them.

Let's hope they don't launch a writing reality show!

10 dumb airheads, locked in a house for six months, all writing a novel.
One publishing contract up for grabs.
Simon Cowell will judge!

God help us!
