Yay! I got the first season of Peep Show coming my way in a couple of weeks. Although it doesn't look like there are any other seasons available in North America though. :( So I'm hoping its not too good so that I don't become obsessed with needing to watch the other seasons.

Why don't you download the other seasons? It's hardly immoral if there is no way for you to purchase them in the first place.

Failing that, you can likely rent the DVDs at a neighborhood video store (ie: not blockbuster)... I know they have most of them at the one near me.

Oh and trust me, you will be obsessed with needing to watch the rest of it.

Really? Because I'm using Zip.ca and they only have the fist season. I know Rogers doesn't have it and I couldn't find it for sale anywhere. Do you know if Rogers Video or Jumbo carries it? Or really what video store you're using?

Oh it's finally coming out? Sweeeet!

Wonder how much Sophie will feature this series. Logically she should but don't see her in the pictures.

The new ladies look lovely, though.

That's the main thing.

:)

I don't see a problem with this show running for at least another 2 series' (is that a real word) The show is about the day to day life problems, and the weird thoughts that occur in these situations. The series has not got stale, and things have been very consistent. The only time I thought something out of place happened was in series 4, when Johnson made the deal with Jeramy to "buy" big Suze. I thought the actor was doing a different voice for the character, I'm not sure why, but it just seemed off with me, sort of felt like that episode was written by someone else. But anyway I digress, I'm still very much a fan and will be watching all the next series, looking forward to them dealing with the potential baby problems.

A small independant local video store... this is the kind of store you need to go to because they often have much cooler stuff, rather than just the mainstream fare.

You can watch all the episodes on YouTube too.

The one episode of Peep Show which baffled me was due to a plot line, the one where they go 'back' to uni, with Mark stalking the history student girl. At the start of the episode, it's as if they are going there to follow her, and they'd never been to that uni. before, then after that the implication is that it was the uni that they'd actually attended.

Or maybe I got it wrong?

Yes, that is the uni they attended. The producers basically admit in the commentary on the DVD that the episode is built on massive contradictions as the girl goes to the exact same uni that they had attended and Jez's band also has a gig there.

OK
It was one of the rare occasions where problems with their plot detracted from the comedy. Usually it all 'works' pretty well, so it was an unwelcome distraction to have to wonder what was happening.

Surely those are coincidences, not contradictions?

Awful episode though. One of the few, of any sitcom, that I find it almost painful to watch.

It's nowhere near that bad. And if memory serves me right it has the mighty Peter Capaldi in, which is okay in my book.

And if we're going to start criticising sitcoms for too many coincidences in scripts, then a hell of a lot are going to come under fire.

The way it was written didn't make it clear that these were co-incidences, and instead implied at some point that the events were linked (it was their old uni), which contradicted the earlier implication that they were stalking this girl.

For what it's worth, I think that episode is ace.

Though I suspect it's cos I'm probably very David-Mitchell/Mark Corrigan-like internally...

Dan

The coincidence that the girl in a Croydon shoe shop that Mark falls for is attending his and Jez's old university is a bit much, I agree.

However, it is a good episode and an important one. By taking Mark and Jeremy back to Dartford it adds not only to their back-story (demonstrating how these two misfits would have got together as friends in the first place), but also shows how far/how little they have come from student days.

Mark was always a coward, doing a degree his father wanted him to do, rather than something he had a passion for. Returning to Dartford shows Mark has (slightly) matured to the point that you feel sorry when he actually has to go back to "real life" at the end. He could now get a girl, be a success at history etc... but it's all too late. It's quite poignant. What is shown by Jeremy, however, is that he was a feckless deluded dreamer then and he's not learnt much since, other than gaining a vague degree of self-awareness that life doesn't work out the way you planned.

It's not the funniest episode, but it serves its purpose well.
