Wow, can of worms anyone?
In the sketch, the black guy who complains rightly has the moral upper ground, rightly showing the comedian up to be the idiot he is. I must admit I find it very weird how people can be turned off a sketch or find it uncomfortable because it touches on the subject of race, regardless of the obviously non-racist content.
But there you go, takes all sorts.

I remember getting a load of stick from a feminist house guest because I found a Les Patterson book funny and apparently that meant that I was backing misogny.

That's the old I was being ironic or pointing out the foolishness of racism argument. It doesn't work if you're expecting at least part of the audience to laugh at the funny mask.
It's a bit like the police shooting people at random to demonstrate the foolishness of gun crime.
Maybe choose an acceptable Black hate figure like Howard off the Halifax or Robert Mugabe, that will atleast confuse people.

Yes but the black guy in the sketch has the moral high ground, that's the point isn't it? All the power is with him. He humiliates the comedian for being a dick. If anything, the sketch ridicules racist comedians, not the other way around.

No, I mean that's the point I'm trying to make with you, not the point of the sketch. The point of the sketch is to have a silly, funny reveal at the end. The point I'm making with you is that it isn't racist, and I'm trying to point out WHY it isn't. You think it might be racist in some way because of the mask, but you're not sure exactly how, but that's enough to make you uncomfortable. That's what I don't understand.

It clearly says in the script THERE'S AN EMBARRASSED SILENCE from the audience. So the script acknowledges that what the comedian is doing is wrong. Your argument would mean that Al Murray's pub landlord character shouldn't exist because there are people that actually buy into what he's saying, and laugh with him, not at him. That's just the moronic section of the British public for you.
There's nothing racist about this sketch Lee.

Racism:
- the prejudice that members of one race are intrinsically superior to members of other races
- discriminatory or abusive behavior towards members of another race
Neither of those things occurred in the sketch. Certain elements are open for people with chips on their shoulders to read in to, but that's just their own bitterness which they need to deal with. This conversation didn't crop up in the Hitler's Lost His Jews thread which could be interpreted just as badly, so it only goes to highlight certain member's bad attitudes. Besides, 'black' and 'white' aren't races anyway so you're all clear.
What did you think of my suggestions to your sketch Lee?
I'm usually one of the first people on this board to comment if I believe something posted is racist - often with the result that I'm told to not take it seriously and that it's a joke. Yet I didn't see anything wrong in this sketch.
Suppose it's what the individual sees...
