Quickie

I'm a bit pissed so I'll probably regret posting this little sketch up. But cut me some slack, I only thought of it ten minutes ago.

EXT / INT. DESERTED COUNTRY LANE. DAY.

A MAN (MIKE) PULLS UP IN A LAYBY ON A DESERTED STRETCH OF B-ROAD AND TURNS THE ENGINE OFF. HE REACHES INTO HIS POCKET AND PULLS OUT A HANDFUL OF COURT DOCUMENTS, ONE OF WHICH READS "DECREE ABSOLUTE - CONFIRMATION OF DIVORCE". HE LOOKS AT HIMSELF IMPASSIVELY IN THE REAR-VIEW MIRROR. WE HEAR HIS WIFE'S VOICE AS HE STARES AT HIS OWN REFLECTION.

MIKE'S WIFE:
(OVERLAPPING, ECHOEY VOICE: You'll never amount to anything Micheal! Why do you always make the wrong decisions? Can't you do anything right? For God's sake Mikey, get a grip!

HE GETS OUT OF THE CAR, OPENS THE BOOT, AND TAKES OUT A LENGTH OF HOSEPIPE. HE STUFF ONE END UP THE CAR EXHAUST AND FEEDS THE OTHER END THROUGH THE DRIVER WINDOW, WINDING IT UP FROM THE INSIDE SO IT HOLDS THE HOSE IN PLACE. HE GETS BACK IN THE CAR, KISSES A PHOTO OF HIS EX-WIFE, CLOSES HIS EYES, AND TURNS THE ENGINE ON.

BRIGHT YELLOW CUSTARD SPURTS OUT OF THE HOSEPIPE, COVERING HIS FACE. HE SIGHS.

CUT TO THE OUTSIDE OF HIS CAR WHERE WE SEE A STICKER ON THE SIDE THAT READS "BOBO THE CLOWN CAR HIRE".

:D You should drink more often, 'tis a good one.

I like that; there's something about frustrated, depressed clowns haunted by their industry that makes me smile!

:D Good one!

Nice.

That's very good, I think it could work with it just being a clown commiting suicide.

Nice. I like the added melancholy of the wife's VO. It's an emotional hook which should make the custard splatter all the more funny. Although I suppose the counter to that is we then expect something to go wrong.

I like it, but then it's quite similar to something I wrote :)

Dan

Good. Submit it to the LOG guys and see if they can work it into a Mr. Jelly scene for the next series of Psycoville. Which reminds me of the scene where the mechanic fixing the car, that was very good. :D

God I must've been pissed I'd forgotten I'd posted this.

Yeah you're right, it's funnier if I make him an off-duty clown.

Cheers for the comments guys.

If he is an off duty clown still in clown costume, when we see the outside of the car at the end, would it work if it fell apart?

No the punchline would be lost if he was in a clown costume.

Alright, forget the clown costume, we see the outside of the car with the sticker, then the car falls apart?

Maybe I should shut up :)

This is getting too close for comfort. I better post mine!

The main issue is you'd need a collapsing car which would turn the sketch from something reasonably easy to produce/ film (although the custard squirt would be interesting) into a headache. I don't think it adds enough to warrant the extra expense.
