Baby P's killers Page 11

Too much to read here. But I think chemical castration is being kind to them.

They just need sentences that fit the crime.

Don't ever let them out so that there is no need to give them new identities.

Our prisons are already overflowing with prisoners on indefinite sentences.

But many children won't get that from their parent/s. So what do we do? I have my own answer but it infringes so many human rights it just wouldn't be done.

Ah go on, do tell! :D

I dunno if I'd use the term stop, but I suspect they'd have a hard time making a case for adoption.

This is one of the uncomfortable areas that there are more stable white/asian family groupings than black family groupings.

No, really no on this one. I had a friend who was a community worker who ran support groups for mixed race families and alot of the parents didn't know how to wash the kids hair.

They can learn, can't they? There are more important things to worry about than washing hair aren't there?

I'll throw one out. I had it you had it and I guess my kids will have it as well. Sex before marriage. It used to be frowned upon. Now accepted. What it nearly always meant was that people used to have to save up years to get married. Then when they were they were older. Therefore when the kids were born the parents were that much older as well.

Mmmm, reeeally not sure about that one, Ross!

Aye, that's the one.

I think the hair care subject just shows how ignorant they are of the issue generally.

Aye, that's the one.

That's a Hogarth and it's pre- Victorian.

But if you want to take responsibility for a child, then expecting you to do a little homework is not a big ask.

Also we need to be far harsher on taking kids into care and putting them up for adoption. At the same time as giving adopters less choice, to beat the
"I want a white healthy 2 month baby only please!"
Syndrome.

And instantly disinterest 65% of the prospective adopters. Brilliant plan.

True but it's also bloody expensive to bang some one up and you have to let them out some time.

I was going to say exactly the same thing.

They don't need staffing. Just lock the bastards up and leave them there.

Not neccasairly. Pre adoption education is pretty poor, so people don't always know why they're getting turned down or how to prevent it happening.

That said I knew a few people who adopted disabled kids purely so they'd never grow up and leave them.
Which I always felt was a bit queazy.

Most adopters are keen for any child. They're not selfish bastards off on a shopping spree looking for a kid to match their curtains. It's just that most of the children needing families have very special needs.

I agree. That's why I said they can learn.

Sadly those skills aren't so hard to learn and some times the learning can really change peoples lives.

One problem with the welfare state is it's made the; awkward, the disabled and the challenging the property of care professionals.

Well those who learn in advance are not so often turned down. Adoption is a bit of a minefield of political correctness replete with some duff decisions.

And all made more complex by the terror of making anykind of a value judgement.
