Who on here uses a Mac? Page 7

What like this?

You just don't know your way around a mac, like a lot of PC users.

Is that really all of the files though? It's all weirdly distributed around the hard drive like a standard *NIX system, is it not?

Okay, I see what you mean. Yes, there are lots of invisible files, but you could always log in as root.

If you don't like unix that's fair enough, although I don't know many programmers who prefer XP. And of course this isn't anything that would trouble the average user.

I don't mind other *NIX systems that I've used (although the aforementioned file distribution does f**k me off). I just really, really intensely dislike OSX, particularly the GUI. I find it bloated, ugly, annoying and clunky. And I'm sure many other things if I'd used it recently.

I've only ever used a Mac to do graphic work and therefore have nothing to add to this discussion.

Balloons? What?

Best thing so far about Macbook (ive owned it for 24 hours) is how quick it starts and shuts down. Even with loads of files on it. Its so quick whereas you can waste so much time waiting for a PC to start and shut down.

My Linux laptop boots in 3 seconds. But Linux is shit. :D

Not really shit, but I prefer more user friendly.

That really depends on what you've got installed, and what runs when, and crucially the hardware. My machine boots up in ... well, I've not timed it, but less than a minute. Since your laptop is brand new, and thus presumably all the latest spec stuff and high-speed processor (and so forth), it would be a shock if it didn't start up quickly.

So you'll be installing Windows then.

No thanks.

I've already installed quite a bit on it, I expected this to slow things down but it didn't. Much quicker than my PC laptop which was always very slow.

Well the Mac Mini I'm using now is about 4 years old. And after many program installations and lots of music and videos, etc. It still runs better than any other system I've tried.
