What would be the situation with regards visas, etc to move here and work, etc from the States?

I think most first-world countries that aren't desperate for more immigrants have made it somewhat difficult for most people without desperately needed skills. If you're highly educated in a critical field or can prove that you'll make a lot of money (and therefore pay a lot of taxes) then it's not too difficult. You basically have to prove that you'll make enough money to avoid being a burden on society while not taking a job away from a deserving citizen.

Yeah, I thought so.

We did it just last month to the Mexicans and Czechs. They're the two biggest refugee claimants in Canada. Needless to say the two countries were not happy.

Blimey that's cheap. Down south that would cost around £300,000.

Oh sorry I meant per month for rent.

Laughing out loud that's further north to buy a house for that much.

You must understand, Paul, that Aaron believes life is just one big student grant.

Yes, I understand - these youngens don't know about work!

Quote: Paul W @ August 10 2009, 8:20 AM BST

Aaron, you do talk shite sometimes, pretty much every city is open to people from All cultures

I didn't say that they weren't. :)

Quote: Gavin @ August 10 2009, 10:06 AM BST

Thats where I'm moving soon :) So you knows it's good.

Ooo decided where exactly, yet?

And I agree, midlands is a good place to start. You'll get best the best of all worlds. Close to the south (London) and cheap as t'North.

Eh?

I am a bit of a London fan and therefore a tad biased. But I always find it a bit odd when people actually go to all the trouble of emigrating from a whole other country, just to end up somewhere like Birmingham or Sheffield.

(No offence to any residents, towns selected at random)

Quote: Gavin @ August 10 2009, 10:06 AM BST

And that London is the greatest city ever. Which is mental totally true.

Quote: chipolata @ August 10 2009, 10:29 AM BST

You know what they say, when you're tired of London you've been there an hour and it's time to go home.

That really does explain a hell of a lot about you, chipolata.

Why live in the slums of London as a peasant, when you can live in the slums of Sheffield and live like Kings?

You basically have to prove that you'll ... not be taking a job away from a deserving citizen.

Errr

Ha. There are nice affordable areas in London!

I know what you mean though about the prices. But if you're actually going to emigrate and change your entire life, choose somewhere really nice! On the coast or something. Or in the countryside near London.

Or in the countryside near London.

:) That's my plan. Although I'm happy where I am at the moment, as there's lots of nice little gateways around here.

But it's a shame that your tainted by the rest of England, to think London is the only place to live. England is a great place, I love my country, I do.

And anyway, I think it's best to enjoy outside London, whilst you can. Before it becomes one of those futuristic mega-cities that overtakes the whole UK.

OOooooh!
That sounds exciting.

It will be a place where Boris Johnson is King! :O

ROAR! Must. Eat. England.
