It's handy for maps, though.

No problem with northerners, but people from the midlands can be twats. Though obviously I don't like to generalise...

your a clever dick aren't you?

did'nt call you or southerners twats did I.... yet you proved this all by yourself.

I was purely speaking from my own experience.

Luke, he was only joking! Chill!

And midlanders seem to be southern or northern depending where we are in the country... it's annoying as hell...

Which bit?

Swansea. She loves it there.

But seriously everyone, what's the best area? My kids are 12,6 and 4. I need someplace not too expensive, but not too far from a decent sized city.

My favourite professor in college lived in Bristol for years and years and he said that was great.

Generally, the further north you are the cheaper it'll be.

Not too far from a decent city equates to "within a 3 hour drive" in the States, doesn't it?

Ok, good to know. Yeah, he lived in Bristol for about 12 years and he was talking of retiring there. It sounded great.

Are you from up North Matt?

The Lake District is overratred - a bit like Blackpool.

Yes, I'm from Carlisle originally. The Lake District is beautiful. Though I only now appreciate that after moving away from it.

I find Northerners quite nosey and lazy.

I'm in NY, in the Finger Lakes region. So, Buffalo is about 1 1/2 hours, Rochester is 35 min. and Syracuse is about 1 hr 10 min away. NYC is a haul, about 3 1/2 hours with terrible traffic in spots. I just like the idea of being near a city because of having kids that enjoy museums, shopping and whatnot. :)

I'm actually very lucky where I live that nothing is too far.

You know that schools and healthcare are often not that great over here, don't you? :)

Cool! Do you listen to Opie and Anthony or are you more of a Howard Stern type of gal?

Or the weather, the crime rates, prices, respect, the government, the comedy.... :(

I'm actually in the only decent school district in our area and don't get me started on our healthcare here.

I suppose it depends how stupid or how much of a cry baby your child is.

Opie and Anthony, of course, although it's very hard to pick them up. Every time they get a new station to broadcast on, they get dumped for content issues. Teary

Finally! Someone on here has heard of them! I usually just download the shows and listen to them as I drive about.
