Apparently the cross on that flag was a copy of the cross on the Scotland flag. The South of americas is meant to be full of people with scottish heritage, hence the Ku Klux KLAN.
By the way, if you're talking about divides, how about the North/South divide amongst Londoners? Is it true that certain taxi drivers refuse to go "Sarf of da River" on certain nights?

A bit of a myth really. At the moment most black cab drivers are in the position of "beggars can't be choosers". The reason they traditionally don't like to go south of the river is because there's simply more business to be had in north London. (And not so much on the trip back from south London.) Plus a lot of them live in north London, so they know it far better and it's nearer for home. Oh, and many of them are obnoxious c**ts, so that'll be another reason.
