'I am a souvenir'?
The nation's divide Page 3
Northern people who move to live in the South are often very pleasant people I find, which shows they can be civilised after all. (Ditto for the Scottish, Welsh, Irish and Jews.)
I gotta ask...what are the Americans like who have permanently relocated there?

My last next door neighbour was an American and he used to proudly have that flag draped across the front of his house. He was a cannabis growing, snaggle-toothed, long -haired, balding, pot-bellied, angry runt, who memorably succeeded in getting himself barred from the funeral parlour burying his wife, whose funeral he then turned up to in a mud-splattered hoody, jeans and sneakers. I am not sure what part of the States he came from - Camden County I think.

They quickly stop pronouncing it paitronizing.

I know a few myself and they seem to have learnt how to talk at a normal volume and learn to use pavements with remarkably little re-education.

The sneaky ones go round calling themselves 'Canadian'.
Thanks guys. Now I know what not to do if we relocate there someday.

Do you have any idea on where you'd like to relocate to? The city, countryside, coast, up a hill, in a hole, on one of the off-shore islands?
Or anywhere more specific? London, Brighton, York, Paris?
Americans do seem to talk loudly when in the UK. Maybe it's something to do with the acoustics.
I haven't quite decided. Any recommendations?

London!
Although it's very flipping expensive.
Quote: Renegade Carpark @ August 8 2009, 1:42 PM BSTHaving said that, I'm quite a typical snobby Londoner in many respects and when I go to the shop to buy a loaf of bread, that's all I want to do, I don't want to have a conversation about it with the check out girl.

Just outside or near London then

Still flipping expensive.
Let's see. I have friend in Wales, don't know about that though. My cousin lived in Cornwall for a while and loved it. My favourite professor in college lived in Bristol for years and years and he said that was great. I can't quite decide.
