Gremlins too. Although not essentially about Christmas, it is set during Christmas and has the feel of a Christmas film. (Unless it's set during Thanksgiving instead? Hold on, better check this one...)

EDIT: It was Christmas. Phew!

Ok I'm genuinely wrong you can add Gremlins to the list.

So there's 3 then.

I couldn't see a joke there.

Don't worry there wasn't a joke there. Not all amusing things have to come in the form of a joke.

:)

I'm with Sooty, It's A Wonderful Life is a massive suckfest.

Scrooged is great though, as is Gremlins.

Some recent contenders

Bad Santa. Elf. And Four Christmases which I went along expecting to hate but made me laugh.

F**k this is turning into the Spanish Inquisition sketch,

I also permit Bad Santa on my list.

"Are you saying there's something wrong with my junk?"

Did you and your girly mates like Julian Temple's Absolute Beginners?

I thought it was good.

Not you as well!

And it's sootyj! J, goddammit!

It's a Wonderful Life is fantastic - especially to everyone who's ever thought that the world would be better off without them.

I don't understand the line - so if that was the best line it must've been quite a crap film.

Thanks Sancho, pass me my lance I spy a giant or is it a windmill?

John Hughes put together some of the best films of the 80's and I'm sad he's gone.

His films also had some of the best quotes ever -

'Moliere really pumps my nads'

'What can I say, she's into Molakas Dino'

'Those aren't pillows!'

'Here's two bits, go down town and pay a rat to chew that thing off your face'

'You do speak English don't you?...Uh, what country do you this is?'

'Erve, I wasn't even in aisle 5!'

And kudos for Kenneth for mentioning Better Off Dead, superbly brilliant movie.

I think it's time to resort to the only definitive tried and tested procedure for resolving these debates:-

TOP 5 LIST: CHEESY 80'S TEEN MOVIES

1. Heathers
2. Ferris Bueller's day off
3. Weird Science
4. Revenge of the nerds
5. Gremlins

And relax! Phew, at last a voice of reason.

What about Manequin?

Quote: Dolly Dagger @ August 6 2009, 11:29 PM BST

Well, I made my friend go and see it with me because of Bowie's involvement. But we insisted on paying for child tickets, because we were 14, with ID, and then of course we weren't allowed in because it was a 18 film. Angry We had to watch a Tom Hanks film instead...

But it was pants by all accounts.

It is a horrible, horrible, terrible film. Yet some people think Temple is some sort of genius. (The same people who probably think Malcolm Maclaren is.)

Remember when a film with Tom Hanks in was something to look forward to? No?

Big was an excellent kids' film. But he also did the lesser-known Punchline with Sally Field, playing a struggling stand-up. It had some good moments I thought.

Of course the best 80s teen experience was Grange Hill.

Mannequin!
