The Bent Cop

The Bent Cop.

A detective high up in the metropolitan police sits at a desk with an angry look across his face, he picks up his desk phone, and dials a number.

SHOT TO:

A police sergeant dressed in riot gear, dancing to 'Club Tropicana' and supping a cocktail through a straw. He answers his mobile.

SERGEANT: Hello?

DETECTIVE: Is that sergeant Cook?

SERGEANT: I can't hear you love, let me move away from the music a minute, yeah.

DETECTIVE: Is that Sergeant Cook?

SERGEANT: It sure is lovie, how can I help?...Koo-ee (waving at a pal across the bar)

DETECTIVE: I have reason to believe that you have committed fraud by keeping class A drugs from evidence, and distributing at your own gain.

SERGEANT: No, not me love, are you sure you have the right Sergeant Cook? You spell mine with an E on the end. Chow darling'.

Detective angrily puts phone down, dials another number.

This has no punchline that I can see, I was expecting a twist but it never came. Not a great sketch, but its good that you uploaded it though.

EDIT to remove stolen joke that nobody picked up on.

I was expecting a twist but it never came.

It would be very difficult to twist dressed in riot gear, dancing to 'Club Tropicana' and supping a cocktail through a straw.

How many bent coppers does it take to beat an egg?
None- It fell down the stairs

Cheers Jacob.

What do you mean by 'good that you uploaded it though'?

Seriously, Scotti; does this have any implications within it?

SERGEANT: No, not me love, are you sure you have the right Sergeant Cook? You spell mine with an E on the end. Chow darling'.

It's "ciao" also.

No, not at all.

The joke basically is what it is, a crap play on word with 'bent cop'.
Where a gay cop, in my head, dancing to 'Club Tropicana' and having a cocktail made me laugh.

The detective part was to disguise the fact he was after an actual bent cop who deals with drugs.

Seemed better in my head, not my best one I guess. :)

The whole bent cop thing seems to be a bit lost in translation. I think you need to drop the phrase in there somewhere to make it work.

Ah, ha - thought so! You see, there is a gag there but you didn't know it! You need to hammer it home:

SERGEANT:
No, not me love, are you sure you have the right Sergeant Cook? You spell mine with --- (TAKES A PILL FROM HIS POCKET, POPS IT IN HIS MOUTH AND QUICKLY WASHES IT DOWN) --- an 'E' on the end. Chow darling'.

I think it's a good idea but you don't sell the gayness of the cop well enough and you may need to emphasise the bent/bent pun.

The main problem, then, is that the only mention of "bent cop" is in the title rather than anywhere in the sketch. If you aren't referring to a bent cop in the sketch you don't leave the viewer/listener much to "get".
