The Portrait of Lady, Jane Eyre amongst others made my A level english torturous. Why was so much 19th century literature self indulgent dreary shite.

Fry and the printing press didn't tell me anything amazingly new - some of the interviews seemed contrived and the conclusions speculative. And having previously watched his Manic Depression show, Fry's cheerful enthusiasm for the subject seemed faked. But it was watchable.
