David Mitchell as The Doctor? Page 3

I thought that we'd long since erased the notion that the role can be played by comedians and fringe performers, but obviously not.

This notion has crossed my mind, but I've ultimately dismissed it. Up to this point he hasn't shown that he has the correct gravitas for the part. A fine comic actor, but not a Doctor.

Mitchell? Maybe in the original run of the series he'd have been on the producers list. He wouldn't be today.

I spoke to Russell over a few glasses of Fino sherry at the weekend and a hot dog, and David Mitchell is slated to play the Doctor's father in a spin off series charting Doctor Who's childhood on Galifrey. It's being pitched as a cross between Harry Potter and the Young Sherlock Holmes thing that Spileberg did. I am not sure I am in favour of it myself unless they give Gallifrey a kind of Terry Gilliam Victoriana vibe.

Talking of Victorian mysteries anybody been watching Desperate Romantics?

Don't joke about that shit! You might go putting ideas into the RTD head.

Haven't been watching Desperate Romantics, but it does look interesting, I must say.

I seem to recall RTD saying that CBBC actually wanting something like that, but him saying no because it was a shit idea. :D

Well hats off to him for that, at least!

It was a particuarly fine Fino though, it has to be said.

When he started to sing Ging Gang Gallifrey though, I made my excuses and left.

I like the costumes, all very Dr Who-ish, in my opinion.

Looks like the 2009 specials are going to have a continuity error in them, then.

Not according to any TV episode though, which is what really counts.

Personally, I think David Mitchell is not conventionally attractive enough to play the doctor. (Sorry!). The makers can't deny the popularity of young, good-looking doctors like Ecclestone and Tennant. Years ago the doctor could be a 'character', but now he's got to have his image on lunch boxes, dolls etc.... they can't risk losing all that revenue.

You're not referring to that ridiculous TV movie?
