I'd just download as I need to watch. It's not like I'd always need episode 3, series 7 of Seinfeld always at hand. It would be nice, but with the 'net being as fast as it is nowadays, is it worth storing locally?
I download to hard drive then backup to data DVDs. Having had a hdd recently die (clicking) I wouldn't want to lose all my files (again). As it is I've only lost a minimal amount of stuff.
I may try to freeze my failed hdd (for a few hours) then remove as much info before it heats up. I've heard this works 50-60% of the time.
