Books you read as a child... Page 8

Wish I could chime in on this thread, but as a kid (and even now), I've never really got on with books - far too time consuming -

Take that feather away and pick me back up from the floor.

:)

No, you're right, it's not.

It's a shit awful steaming pile of shit story.

Talk us through why? Maybe more eloquently?
:D

As for comic books, Tintin and then Asterix. And Disney comics (mainly the Duck stories by Carl Barks). And the Phantom and Mandrake. And Oor Wullie and the Broons.

And no one has mentioned Little Golden Books yet. Or Richard Scarry. Or Mr Men. I remember the Little Golden Books that came with a 45 rpm record that you could play along with the story. There would be a special sound (Tinkerbell rings her bell, the Lively Little Rabbit bounces, etc) to tell you when to turn the page.

As for the Choose Your Own Adventure books, they were awful. Except for one memorable one, where the object was to visit your Aunt Kate who lived in Twin Falls, Idaho. Usually you'd get killed on the train before getting to Aunt Kate.

Just got a few Tintins, one of which in French! Sick

The Body Book - how I learnt about sex. My mum just handed it to me so she didn't have to explain.

Yeah, same thing happened to me.

OK, let's see.

There was one childrens' book where a boy found a dinosaur egg. He left it in the airing cupboard and it hatched. Can't remember the title though.

Then, from an early age (from about 11 - 16) I read adult novels (horror mostly) by the likes of James Herbert and other similar authors.
And novels based on the movies including Psycho, Halloween, etc.

For my 11th birhday, I was given Roget's Thesaurus.
I actually requested it! I was a strange child.

I ca remember asking my dad for Roget's Thesaurus, to which he replied "You and your fascination with dinosaurs."

I can remember asking my dad for Roget's Thesaurus, to which he replied "You and your fascination with dinosaurs."

Laughing out loud

Top notch!

It's true. :)

Ask him why there is no other word for thesaurus.

Which one? It's fun to read Snowy being given his correct name, Milou. Which is my cue for a boring bit of trivia: When Tintin was created, Herge had a girlfriend named Milou. Herge initially considered having Tintin travel about with a girlfriend named Milou. But the publisher of the Catholic magazine in Tintin first appeared would not have that, so Milou became a little white dog.

Man in spectacles can't understand why some people don't appreciate books shocker!

Man in spectacles who actually wrote a book can't fathom that other's don't have time to read a book shocker!

Marc P realises yet another BSG member may never buy his book - not a shocker!

;) :P & :D

Did Marc write a book?

I was into the Forgotten Realm series of books. I actually went out and re-purchased my two favourites but have never got around to reading them.
"Prince of Lies" and "The Crucible" from "The Avatar Series".
I would also like to re-read the Xanth by Piers Anthony and Myth series (like those Mything Link and Mything Persons).

Did Marc write a book?

I think he might have mentioned it in passing. He didn't make a big deal of it though.

Oh. Well, can't be up to much then. Otherwise he would have mentioned it more, I guess?

Marc looks like he wrote a book.
