How did you get on with the Sitcom Trials, Jonathan?

Dave and I cobbled together something about spies, but decided to leave it as we had several competing deadlines and making it of a good enough quality to enter it would hav meant sacrificing other things for very little return. We're now focusing much more on a sitcom about gambling, which would be what we would send to Screenplay Productions if it wasn't about six months away from being ready.

So, 'badly' is the answer to your question.

Looks like a lot of people got emails from Screenplay.

Thing is, now he's gonna have a huge pile of spec scripts to get through.

Make sure you send them your best stuff otherwise they could develop "writersroom eyes" that just "skim" over every script because they've been sent so much tat...

...you know, when script readers have read so many badly formatted scripts or pilots with not much of a plot that they lose faith in the rest of the pile and just "skim" over the next few scripts, which could end up in not noticing that absolute diamond.

It's good that Jan has an open policy, but a lot of other companies have closed shops to unsolicited material for the above reason.

Somebodies best stuff might still be tat. Whereas somebody elses tat might be pretty excellent.

Another bit of genius comedy dialogue in the service of evil and grumpiness.

And the waste disposal line, are we meant to believe you're a diferent BSG'r?

Thanks very much, Sooty. As for the 'waste disposal line' - I was thinking of Sir Frankie Rage - "I have now got a job on the bins" well, that's what he says!

Well, yes, true.
But companies do tend to be sent badly formatted scripts, or pieces that don't have a decent plot.

It's like in novel writing. You USED to be able to send straight to the publisher, but now it's an agent's job to sort out the wheat from the chaf.

OK, so I'd better comment. Thanks to Jan's interest (and my obvious talent) I do have a pilot commission and development budget for one of my sitcoms with C4/Big Talk/Screenplay. I'm staying out of the business end, but it's all going really well. I have a feisty agent looking after my interests now. Jan is an honest yet enthusiastic producer to the writers he believes in (and he took a late call from me tonight about something I was pissed-off about). I have another sitcom script going forth and I certainly never regretted sending him my stuff upon request.

And what's more, I'm not at all jealous.

Hi Tim. I don't think any of us said anything bad about Jan.

Good luck with your pilot. :)

No, Mikey J, wasn't suggesting anyone was. I was just trying to reassure people by re-telling my experience. I have an ongoing relationship with Jan and he's a genuine guy who had a real concern for the writers he's involved with. (Though obviously as his most talented writer, he should be more focused on me, the c**t, than sending solicitous emails to hacks!) :)

Although as his seventh most talented writer, I've got more to worry about than you.

Screw all you guys.

Do you wake up each morning to the delicious aroma of fresh bread as Jan canters elegantly into your bedroom carrying a delicious repast?

No, I didn't think so.

Tim Walker's gone and spoilt it all. I was having a great time on this thread. Bastard.

Reminds me of when my mum told me I was adopted.

Ah, phew! I thought I'd offended at first as I do tend to put my foot in it at times. :)

Jan Jung articluates vehemently the essence of lavender mob oil. One can also assume that Pythagoras triangles are cheesy in nature and may be high in THC thus giving users a certain calming feeling.
