Isn't it just you don't want to talk to them they don't want to talk to you but you kinda have to becuase peer pressure, and really your not interested in them or their life or you'd of kept in touch. Just do what I do walk on and pretend you blind in you left eye if they grab you.

The other good thing is if you see them coming grab out your phone and start talking into it, as you pass them give them a nod then keep talking until you turn the corner. Job done

I do that trick whenever I pass gangs of feral youths. I pretend to be talking on it because I imagine if I do that they'll be less likely to set me on fire or stab my neck.

I'm confounding their expectations. They think, "Look at that cocky bastard, openly talking on his mobile. It's almost like he wants us to mug him. I don't like it."
