Bohemians like me

I've watched a lot of costume dramas and I've noticed that brilliant but penniless writers always seem to be hang out in pubs in dodgy areas where they meet up to complain about their lot before stumbling into some wealthy patron and being swept off into the world of success. Does anyone know where these pubs are located in reality?

Try Old Compton Street.

More likely to end with broken dreams and a very sore bottom.

Unless, of course, one's dreams include a sore bottom? And a rash.

Then yo may end up like Graham Norton.

On his money I'd at least consider it.

Er…I think there's been some confusion here. I'm only interested in the writing.

I do believe a lot of writers frequent the, shall we say, less desirable places because that's where they find the best inspiration for new characters.

... but...

where they meet up to complain about their lot before stumbling into some wealthy patron and being swept off into the world of success.

... this doesn't often happen outside of Dickens.

It's usually a lot of hard work and/or luck stumbling into a producer.

INT. OFFICE. DAY

LITERARY AGENT, LIONEL HORNE IS SLOWLY REMOVING FENCE'S TROUSERS.

LIONEL:
Mmmmm....lovely arse!

FENCE:
Er…I think there's been some confusion here. I'm only interested in the writing.

:D

(The above also explains how Matthew Horne broke into the business.)

:D

That actually happened though.
