I've been watching the box set on DVD (available from The Works for £4.99)

Does anyone know why it finished? Four episodes doesn't seem much and it could have gone on for much longer.

I don't think it has finished. It just hasn't returned. Afterall, David Jason does like to keep changing projects. Even Frost is ending this year. *Sobs*

I thought the first two parter was good. The rest of the episodes were not as good.

Yeah. The pilot was the best. The rest were good though.
