Couldn't find this anywhere.
What's the word count for 45 minutes Radio play?
Word Count - Radio
Read it through out loud. Word Count is not an exact science. Although 9000 sounds about right.

Know what you mean, but doesn't the 6000 count allow for action - which I guess there would be less of in a radio drama???
BBC Writersroom scripts has some Radio 4 Afternoon Plays. They're 45 minute slots, aren't they?
You can copy from pdf and paste into Word for a word count.

Doh! *slaps head*
Of course - good idea.
Thanx all.

Just did a word count on Radio 4 Afternoon play, which runs at 45 mins.
Words: 7912
Pages: 50, using BBC preferred layout.
This includes character names and Audio instructions - of which there were suprisingly little, in this example anyway.
So there you have it.
Have to admit I first read the title of this thread as 'Word C**t - Radio'. Thought it might be a new Radio 4 literary panel show hosted by Victoria 'My Dad Was Good - Give Us A Job' Coren.

To be honest, I think you have to be a bit ofa word c**t to attempt the afternoon play.
They've certainly had a few write them in the past.
And here's a slight parody of them from Stephen Fry's famous Radio 4...

Oh, and here's a clip I've never seen before of Stephen performing a monologue 'The Letter' from his Footlights days...

1. Uncannily accurate
2. He's a baby!
Worked with F & L (love!) in 1986 (I think) - Alliance & Leicester commercials plus a million voice-overs.
Both very nice guys.
I just sent one off to a producer and it was about 7,200 words so that sounds in the ballpark. Padd it out with a song or two and bob's your uncle.
On mature reflection this morning I might do a bit of wangling and produce it myself. Cut out the middle man.

Brave call - or have you done it before?
What sort of thing is it BTW?
Good luck with it, either way.
I've got a meeting with a produce re a screenplay I've had out there sometime.
He's actually meeting me half way ( I'm in the midle of nowhere) so Im taking this a promising sign.
Ever the optimist!

No. But how hard can it be? A microphone. Some actors. A flask of tea. Some Jack Daniels.
I suppoose it's a comedy/drama afternoon play kinda thing.
Good luck with the meeting!

Ditch the tea.
And possibly the actors.
Quote: Griff @ July 27 2009, 10:04 AM BSTI hope you're going to do your own sound effects with a Fairy liquid bottle, a bag of gravel and a kazoo?
I'll be doing a few. But it is surprisingly easy to get hold of background sound effects on the net. I might even compose some music for it. I am working on a killer chord sequence at the moment with a country cowboy plucking thing going on. AM C G AM. It's awesome. Not sure how it would fit in mind.
