As a medical man, I reckon it had something to do with their ages.
RIP Harry Patch Page 2
Quote: Chappers @ July 26 2009, 1:21 AM BSTCoincidence we lost two of them this week. Maybe they just felt so strongly about our presence and casualties in Afghanistan ad Iraq.
Or maybe they both felt like dying but were both trying to hold it out the longest to be the last ever WWW1 veteran.

I know some people still stuck in WWW 1. Many others have moved into 2.0 though.
WW1. Sorry.

Aren't all your troops out of Iraq?
Thank God he lived long enough to see 'Big Brother' on Channel Four. If all of your friends run headlong into machine gun fire, at least they died for something.

Not according to British media.
Has the US disinformation service [CNN, Fox et al] said something to the contrary?

So this never came to pass?
I haven't heard anything about UK troops in Iraq for a couple of months.
The withdrawal refers to combat troops only.
Don't ask me what the remaining military personnel will be doing!

Everything I've read says there are only a few dozen UK troops still in Iraq and they'll all be gone within a week. I assume they're liaison and administrative troops left behind to smooth the transition to Iraqi control of the country.

Sounds reasonable. I reckon we'll have personnel there until your boys leave, if they ever do.
I received his book for Christmas - 'The Last Fighting Tommy'.
I haven't read it yet, but when I do, his death will make it all that more poignant.
RIP, Harry.

Yes. There are still plenty of British military personnel in Iraq.
I'm surprised you didn't read between the lines of Government propaganda, DaButt.
