I've watched a lot of costume dramas and I've noticed that brilliant but penniless writers always seem to be hang out in pubs in dodgy areas where they meet up to complain about their lot before stumbling into some wealthy patron and being swept off into the world of success. Does anyone know where these pubs are located in reality?

I do believe a lot of writers frequent the, shall we say, less desirable places because that's where they find the best inspiration for new characters.

... this doesn't often happen outside of Dickens.
It's usually a lot of hard work and/or luck stumbling into a producer.
