Quote: Chappers @ July 20 2009, 2:21 PM BSTIt does surprise me how highly Sergeant Pepper is considered. To my mind only about half of it is listenable.
Which half of it is unlistenable?
I can do without "She's Leaving Home" "Within You Without You" (but love the Love remix) and "When I'm Sixty-Four" but find the rest eminently listenable.
Quote: SlagA @ July 20 2009, 2:43 PM BSTI'm going to play it now, to see if my ears agree.
You know I used to listen to a Beatles' album, rate the songs according to a marking method I constructed, then make a graph showing how my interest varied through all the albums by each minute, the highs and lows. It was only years later I realised what the behaviour was indicative of.
What was it indicative of? It sounds like OCD or Aspergers, but it also sounds like the sort of thing any kid might do.
I have a list of all BCG forum contributors against which I rate their posts over an x axis of time.
Highest ever rating goes to Jamie Jones with 13.4.

If Aaron is judging the Beatles on this which is supposedly one of the best albums made I can understand why he feels they're overrated.
They have many other consistently better albums.

BEING FOR THE BENEFIT OF Mr Kite.
Likewise With a Little Help From My Friends. And Good Morning is actually Good Morning Good Morning but to point that out would be childish.
Luckily the like and dislike stuff is entirely a matter of opinion. I hope Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (reprise) rates an

Back in the USSR is one of those songs where you crank up the volume, grab anything that resembles a microphone and sing and dance like a fool. Which happens to be a favourite pastime of mine.
I will always have a slight problem with Back in the USSR.
I don't see people having as much as fun with song title Back in Hitler's Germany.
Sgt. Pepper probably gets the additional recognition for supposedly being the first conceptual album. Even though, like with many, my fave Beatles period would be the Help / Rubber Soul / Revolver, Sgt. pepper had its share of great tunes.
1. "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" - OK
2. "With a Little Help from My Friends" - love it
3. "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" - love it
4. "Getting Better" - nice
5. "Fixing a Hole" - nice
6. "She's Leaving Home" - love it
7. "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!" - love it
8. "Within You Without You" - skip it
9. "When I'm Sixty-Four" - it's OK
10. "Lovely Rita" - great
11. "Good Morning Good Morning" - OK
12. "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (reprise)" - eh?
13. "A Day in the Life" - perfect tune.

It was supposed to be a joke response to the Beach Boys' California Girls.

And, of course, Chuck Berry's 'Back in the USA'.

When Man United had the legendery strike partnership of Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke up front, I tried a football chant using this song. The lyric where it says 'And it really doesn't matter if it's wrong or right, Where I belong I'm right, where I belong' I changed to 'And it really doesn't matter if it's Cole or Dwight, they will score goals all night, they will score goals' It never caught on.

Off that medley, you missed Sun King, which is a top song, a great song with some foreign lyrics.
