Stand up Comedy. Page 7

I've done stand-up at pubs and, to be honest, it wasn't a great deal of fun. People don't really go the pub to watch comedy. Throw in large quantities of alcohol, and you're fighting a losing battle from the start.

Holidays resorts - like Pontin's, however - were a much better experience.

The moment you step on stage you become like a 'mini celebrity', and the audience will give you a genuine chance to make them laugh. As oppose to a pub crowd, that will often have decided your fate before you have even spoken a word.

I quite enjoyed my time at Pontin's and similar venues, but this was mainly because of the amount of women that used to throw themselves at me after each performance - believing I may be the next 'Mr Big'.

Unfortunately, as these girls removed my trousers and underwear after each show - they discovered this couldn't be further away from the truth.

Someone has posted on YouTube the reason for my above post.

Just watched this and it made me feel really uncomfortable.

Granted she seemed like a right little Princess, but seeing a big guy standing over a little lady, screaming at her to 'F-off' was quite disturbing.

I hope the comics are thoroughly ashamed of themselves.

Seinfelds done well for himself. . .

Agreed.

That YouTube clip is just shocking, How did they ever get a gig? Although to be fair she was annoying, especially for them(the comics) as she was funnier than they were.

The guy just wasn't very funny, he said something like "I've got the mike in my hand you haven't" and then screamed like a maniac with no need for a Microphone anyway.

It was a nasty night and something like I've never seen at a gig before, believe it or not she kept heckling the acts that were on after and it got even worse.

The promoter should have stepped in long before, stopping a crazy, crazy night that no one could have been proud of.

I remember going to a stand up show, way back in about '96, and one bloke got heckled pretty badly. He was a young, speccy ginger bloke, who looked like he was new to it all, and he was terrible. I just remember, his routine had been going pretty badly, and all of a sudden, he did this strange joke, which involved him asking everyone to observe (?) a minute's silence. Unfortunately for him, halfway through the silence, some bloke at the back shouted, "When's the comedy gonna start?" Then, as if that wasn't bad enough, some girl, feeling sorry for him said, "Ahhhh", as if she had just seen an injured puppy. The stand up looked devastated, and could only say, "You've ruined it now!" before starting the minute's silence again! But, worst of all, was the fact that the poor sod had a little tape recorder on a table, taping the whole thing, meaning he could listen to it over and over.

I shall hopefully be performing at Kings X next Tuesday evening for 'The Lions Den Comedy Car Crash' .

Twenty six open spots picked at random. Would be great if anyone was about to see you there, I might even buy you a drink.

From the way you've described it, I think I'd find that genuinely funny.

Just did my first gig in Cape Town, really enjoyed it, and I am still buzzing!

The audience (over 200!!!) were so receptive, it was a great experience.

And they know how to treat stand-ups properly, champagne in the green room etc., none of that 'bring your friends to get 5 minute' nonsense that goes on in London.

Don't know if I'm going to get any sleep tonight....

Well I happen to know that it was only your third gig (as I've been to the other two)

So well done for having the guts to give it a go while you were out there.
I only wish I could have been there to heckle you & ruin it slightly.

:D :P

Yay! Well done Angie!

Congrats, Angie! Now you can call yourself an "international stand-up". :)

Yes, well done! :D
