British Comedy Guide

Most entertainingly disturbing thing?

Psycoville has kicked off this whole dark, disturbing entertaining thing. And as some of you may have guessed I do rather like the darker side of the media.
The stuff that entertains because it shines a light on the shadier corners of one's mind.

So what's your favourite dark media?

Sootyj's faves include.

John Fowles, The Collector. Is there a better book on obsession and sociopathy?

Neil Gaiman, The Doll's House/A Game of You. The middle 2 books of The Sandman, are just on a diferent level to anything.

I'll probably add more.

Never heard of any of 'em.

I'm a sucker for Japanese horror though, especially the ridiculously-overblown kung fu splatterfests like Ricky-Oh. Clip here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vMKN1tYknE

Dexter is very dark, but surprisingly light at the same time. But very very dark, with lots and lots of light. But dark, dark, lit up with light.

Good films, but dark? More campy and action packed.

The TV series was ace, I loved the last series with Jimmy Smitts as a full on loon. And Micheal Hall really owns the part.

The books are pretty poor.

I should add I love Clive Barker's Books of Blood (he never wrote anything near as good) and David Cronenberg films. Especially Dead Ringers and that Recent Russian one.

Dexter is indeed brilliantly brill. I hated Jimmy Smitts when he was on Hill Street Blues but his role in Dexter has shown him in a new light and I think he's a brilliant actor now.

As for dark, disturbing, entertainment, you can't beat the original 70's Salems Lot, it am made of win (and covered in awesome sauce).

>_< Don't post spoilers without warning. Only on episode 4 of season 3.

Yea Dexter, Sandman, some Hellboy and King are fun.
My favourite favourite favourite dark book is 'I Am Legend'. I've probably read it 3 times now.
I also love a good distopian book or movie.
I don't know if anyone read the comic 'The Walking Dead' but it was so dark and disturbing I stopped reading about 10 comics in dispite being heavily interested. And it wasn't the zombies that disturbed me it was the survivors.

Try the film it's very faithful and has Terrence Stamp in it.

Being a busy businessman, I've spent the past three weeks lazily house-sitting a friend's place by the beach. She comes back tomorrow, so this morning I cleaned the house, especially the kitchen, and inside the pantry I found a packet of soup mix with an entertainingly disturbing name:

Also somewhat entertainingly disturbing is the name of a nearby fishing bait shop:
