The Internet: A Good thing?

I had my broadband access taken out because I found that I was never doing any actual writing, I was just wasting time surfing the web, looking at dodgy websites (CFNM, anyone?). Nowadays I just use the intenet at work, or via libraries and internet cafes. I find that I'm much more productive as a result... Anybody else find the internet similarly distracting? Or am I just massively weak willed?

It's equally brilliant and shit.

Imagine no internet - No research, no discussions, no new way of putting things out there.

When Dave Gorman was doing his googlewhack adventure, I think he said that when trying to write his book he ended up looking for distractions, and the internet containing everything about everything is a hell of a big distraction.

The internet is great. I have a good old googlewhack everyday with some of the sites I've found.

Agree 100%. It's a drug, that's why I haven't installed it. My girlfriend would get jealous. I just go to Internet point, look at something useful like Melanie C's legs, then BOH (bugger off home).

Melanie C's legs

I've seen better legs on an oil rig.

Oooh... oil rigs...

Lets face it its not the internet that's our problem its our own self-discipline. I think its vital for research - for writing, not oil rig porn.

95% distraction, 5% Research, 1%Nothing (There is a 1% margin of error)

I go onto forums and normally get sucked into unproductive debates....urggh here we go again.

Self disipline is the key I think and thinking ah F**k it who really wants to know about the reproductive cycles of the common bottle nosed Dolphin?

Just get on with work lol

All I know is I have a lot more dresses than I had before.

It can be a bit odd for peeps when you are sitting opposite them & making typing movements with your hands when you speak.

When something is destined to be written, it will push itself out no matter what distractions abound.

Believe me: I'm married.

The internet is an easy whore to ignore when immortal works of art are due to be born.
